MORRIS M. BESKINID AND .TAcK MAYPER, or BROOKLYNQNEW' yonmnssrenons T WASHINGTON GARTEB CORR, OF NEW YORK, N.
Y., A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK STITGHLESS GARTER CLASP Application filed April 6,
Our invention relates to improvements in hosiery'engaging claspsfor garters and it is our object to produce a clasp for engaging the hosiery in which the various parts are held together without sewing or stitching.
' It is well known that where the web at the clasp is sewed-or stitched the fabric of the web is weakened and the garter is easily torn at the line of stitching and rendered useless. By the use of our invention this difficulty is entirely eliminated.
In the drawing Fig. 1 is a face view of our improved garter clasp structure; Fig. 2 a longitudinal sectional view of the structure of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 a View of the slide used in our garter; Fig. 4 a view of the loop used in our garter; Fig. 5 a view of a button plate used in one form of our garter; Fig. 6 a view of the tipped web used in our garter; Fig. 7 a View of a slide and loop mechanically hinged together which may be used in our garter; Fig. 8 a face view of a garter clasp embodying a modified form of button plate;
and Fig. 9 a longitudinal, sectional View of the structure of Fig. 8. 1
The web 1 has the rigid tip 2 secured to one end thereof.
The slide 3 has the slots 4 and 5 and the bar 6 between them.
The loop 7 has the top bar 8.
The button plate 9 shown in Fig. 5 has the slots 10 and 11 and the button 12 mounted thereon.
The button plate 9 shown in Figs. 8 and 9 has the slot 10 at one end and the button 12 at the other end.
In assembling the garter clasp shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the tipped end 2 of the web 1 is threaded through the slot 4 in the slide 3 from rear to front, then the bar 8 of the loop 7 is slipped on the web; the web then passes through the slot 5 in the slide 3 from front to rear. It then'drops to form a loop and is threaded through the slot 10 in the button plate 9 from front to rear, then through the slot 11 in the button plate from rear to front and carried around the button plate 9 and up and again through the slot 4 in the slide 3 from rear to front after which the 50 tipped end 2 is threaded through the slot 5 1932. Serial No. 603,568.
way the loop 7 is held to the slide 3 by the web 1 and the tipped end 2 of the web is held in position between the reaches13 and 14 of the web 1 so that it cannotbe'accidentally withdrawn. In this way we are enabled to assemble the garter clasp without the use of any stitching and avoid the weaknesses in- "cident tothe use of sewing.
a front and finally again through the 'slot 5 in the slide 3 from front to rear, leaving the tipped end 2lying in the folds of Web.
It will be noted that so far as the threading of the web on the slide 3 is concerned" the method isthe same in both forms of our invention, and that the button plate 9 0119 is p secured to the clasp by a long loop of web in the case of thebutton plate 9'or a short loop in the case of the button plate 9;
. If desired the loop 7' may be mechanically hinged to the slide 3 as shown in Fig. 7 without departing from our invention and the structure of Fig. 7 threaded in the manner herein. describedso that no stitching is required to hold theparts together.
. In use the hosiery is placed over the button; and the loo-p slipped thereover in the usual manner.'
