This invention relates to improvements in toys and has for its particular object the provision of a novel form of toy for producing smoke rings.

A particular object of this invention is the provision of a novel form of toy for producing smoke rings which can be economically manufactured and which is collapsible.

Further objects of this invention will be apparent from the specification and drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the device in operation.

Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the device along the line 22 of Fig. 1.

The frame of the box 10 is preferably made from a single sheet of cardboard properly scored and folded so as to make an approximately cubical container, to the front portion of which is attached the conical member 11, having the mouthpiece 12.

The member 11 is preferably also made from a single sheet of cardboard properly scored and folded.

After introducing smoke through the lips into the opening 13, the rings are produced by gently tapping with the fingers on the rear of the box 10 as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. With a little practice, perfect rings in large quantity can be easily produced by this device.

I have discovered that in order to make this device properly operative, the rear wall 17 of the box into which the smoke is led must not be hermetically attached to the contiguous walls of the box, but that there must be openings adjacent the edges of the rear wall 17 so as to permit air to enter into the box when blows are struck by the hand upon the wall 17 as illustrated in Fig. 1.

For this reason the wall 17 folds inwardly by means of the flange 18 onto the bottom of the box 19, leaving the opening 20 for the admission of air.

I have found by experiment that when the rear wall of the box is closely sealed to the contiguous walls so that no air can be admitted into same when the wall 17 is struck that in this event no smoke rings are produced even if smoke is introduced into the box 10, and the device operated in the usual manner.

It is apparent that further changes in the device may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:

1. A toy device for producing smoke rings, a cubical box, serving as a smoke container, an opening in the front of said box, a conical member attached to the front of said box by means of aplurality of flaps on said member, which flaps engage corresponding slots in said box, one or more flaps on said member turned over to rest on the outer front surface of said box, a circular hole in the front of said conical member, a slightly movable rear wall on said box and air openings adjacent the edges of the rear wall for the proper operation of the toy device for producing smoke rings.

2. A toy device for producing smoke rings, a cubical box, serving as a smoke container, an opening in the front of said box, a conical member attached to the front of said box by means of a plurality of flaps on said member, which flaps engage corresponding slots in said box, one or more flaps on said member turned over to rest on the outer front surface of said box, a circular hole in the front of said conical member, a slightly movable rear wall on said box, a flange at the lower end of said wall, folded inwardly to rest on the bottom of the box to guide said rear wall and cause the same to bend so to form air openings adjacent the edges of the rear Wall for the 1 proper functioning of the toy device.
