This invention relates to covers or the like,

andmore particularly to a cover adapted to be used in connection with the like. An object of this invention is to provide a cover of this kind which may be readily mounted or positioned about the typewriter and readily moved into operative or inoperative pos1tion, the cover being so constructed that when in inoperativeposition, it will take up a relatively small space back of the typewriter.

Another object of this invention is.y to provide in combination with a cover of this kind means whereby the lower portion of the cover is held away from the keys of the machine so as not to interfere with the normal use of the machine.l

A further object of this invention is to provide a cover of this kind which is adapted to have one portion thereof attached to the ty ewriter at the bottom thereof so as to entireiyT cover the bottom of the typewriter, the other or top portion being foldable and held in folded or rolled condition at the back of the typewriter when the cover is not disposed over the typewriter.

The above and various other objects and advantages of this invention will in part be m described in and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein v a typewriter or igure` 1 1s a sectional view taken substantlally through the center of the device constructed according to the preferred embodiment of this invention mounted on a typewriter; v

Referring to the di'awmgs wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts. throughout the several views, the numeral l0 designates generally a conventional typewriter having a linger board 11 and a plurality of supporting feet 13. Where typewriters are securedto a desk having a rockable leaf or support, the typewriters are usually left uncovered and any dust raisedA about the desk settles in the typewriter, and in sections of the country which 00 aresubject to sand storms lor the like, the sand seeps into the working parts of the typewriter and interferes with the smooth operationthereof. In like manner, where typewriters are'covered with a conventional cover having no closed bottom, the sand and dust seeps into the working parts ofthe machine and interferes with the smooth operation thereof.

In order to adequately protect the ty 10 writer when it is not in use, I have provi ed a typewriter cover generally designated as 12, which is of flexible construction and may be constructed of cloth such as canvas or rubberized material of a relatively fiexible construction so that it may be readily rolled or folded when the typewriter is in use.

The cover l2 comprises a base portion 14' which is of a configuration conforming to the configuration of the bottom of the typewriter including the finger board portion 11, and this base portion 14 is provided with a plurality of spaced apertures 15 for receiving the bolt used for securing the feet 13 to the bottom of the typewriter 10. In this manner, the base 14 is permanently attached to the bottom of the typewriter. The forward end of the base 14 extends substantially to the forward edge of the finger board 11, and this forward edge is free as well as the side edges of the base 14.

Attached at the rear ed e of the base 14 is a top or cap member 16 W ich is of a configuration conforming substantially to the configuration of the body portion of the t ewriter and is ofa size to loosely engage a out the body of the typewriter including the sides, front and rear and top thereof, This cap or top portion 16 may be formed integrally with the base 14, and the marginal 10 edges of the to 16,'together with the marginal edges of tlie base 14, are provided with conventional zipper elements 17 and the conventional zipper locking and releasing member 18. Preferably, there are two of these releasing members 18 and the releasing members 18 are brought forwardly to the front of the base 14 at substantially the central portion thereof.

Adjacent the rear of the base portion 14, there are provided a plurality o straps 19 which are mounted on the base 14 inl spaced relation to each other, these straps 19 having one portion 2O of a clasp and the other complementary portion of the clasp 21 is attached to the back ofthe top l'so that when the top 16 is lifted off of the typewriter and rolled or folded at the back of the ty ewriter, the strap 19 will hold the cover 'in' olded or rolled condition.

In order to hold the front portion ofthe base 14 away from the `keys of the typewriter 11, I have provided a plate member 22 which has spaced openings therethrough adjacent the rear edge thereof whereby to receive the pegs of the feet 13 so as to secure this plate 22 in position beneath the bottom of the finger board 11. The plate 22 is bent downwardly so as to space the forward edge of the plate downwardly from the lower edge of the finger board 1l and to hold 'the flexible bottom member 14 away from the keys and spacing bar of the typewriter 10. The plate 14 is bent downwardly and forwardly at a point closely adacent the pegs or feet 13. y

t will be obvious from the foregoing that a relatively simple but at the same time practical cover has been devised by meansv of which the entire typewriter including the bottom thereof may be thoroughy encased in the cover or closure 12 so that wheny the typewriter is not in use, it will be thoroughly protected from dust, dirt or the like.

In the use of this device, the bottom 14 is permanently inter osed between the feet 13 and the bottom o the typewriter 10, and when the typewriter is not in use, the 'cover or top portion 12 maybe extended over and about the typewriter 10 and secured in this ositiolfby means of the zipper elements 17 y drawing the zipper releasable locking member 18 forwardly to the front of the base 14. i e

When it is desired to use the typewriter, the zipper releasing elements 18 may be moved to the rear of the base 14, and the top element or member 16 may be folded or rolled at the rear of the typewriter and secured 'in this position by means of the strap members 19.

A cover of the character described comprising a substantially rectangular base havlng a plurality of 'spaced apertures adapted to engage the leg bolts of a typewriter whereby to secure the base beneath the typewriter, a hood member integrally formed with the base and having the 'side and front'edge portions thereof freev from the base whereb to permit rolling of the hood at the back o the typewriter, strap members carried by the base adjacent the back thereof, and clasp members carried by the hood and the straps whereby to hold the hood in rolled position at the back ofthe typewriter.
