IMPROVEMENTIN WEIGHTED HORSESHOES.
S ecification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,277, dated January 16, 1877; application filed 7 December 11, 1876.
provement in Weighted Horseshoes, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a face view of one of my im-' proved shoes, the weight being detached.-
Fig. 2 is a face view of the same, showing the weight attached to it. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectionof the same, taken through the line w as, Fig. 2.

The object of this invention is to furnish an improved weighted horseshoe designed for use in training a horse to trot fast, by extending his stride and squaring hisaction, which may also be used to prevent a horse from striking his knees with his feet, which shall be so constructed that the weight may be attached and detached, as required, and which when attached shall be entirely out of sight.
The invention consists in the combination of the detachable weight with the flanged or rabbeted forward part of the shoe, as hereinafter fully described. 7
' A represents a shoe, which has a flange, lip, or rabbet, a, formed upon the inner edge of its forward part, to. serve'as a seat for the weight B. The weight B is so formed as to fit into the forward part of the shoe A, and is rabbeted upon the upper side of its forward part, to receive and fit upon the rabbet or flange a of the shoe A, where it is secured in place by screws, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. This construction enables the weight to be readily removed when not required for use.
The weight may extend back to the same distance along both arms of the shoe, as shown in Fig.2, when the horse travels squarely.
When it is desired to prevent the horse from striking his knees with his feet, or interfering, the weight B is made to extend back farther upon one side than upon the other, as
shown in dotted lines in Fig.1.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the detachable weight B with the flanged or rabbeted forward part of the shoe A, substantially as herein shown and described.
E, E. SEIXAS.
