IMPROVEMENT IN HORSESHOElNG-HARNESS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,405, dated May 18, 1875; application filed April 24, 1875.
To all whom yit may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC l?. PIGKERING, of rlable Grove, Fulton county, Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Horseshoein g- Harness, of which the following is a specification:
The object of the present invention is to furnish facilities to aid in shoeing horses; and it consists in a harness so constructed that the foot on which the shoe is to be placed is held up and in proper position, thus avoiding the necessity of holding up the horses foot in the usual and well-known manner.
Figure 1 is a view of the harness as applied to a horse when in use; Fig. 2 is a detail of the breast-buckle. Fig. 3 is a det-ail of the rear part which conta-ins a pulley, over which the draft-strap passes; and Fig. 4. is a detail of the ring and straps on the runnp of the horse.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts'. e
A is the collar-strap, B, the breast-strap. O is the breast-pulley. D is the back-strap, which is attached to the collarstrap and to the ring E on the rump of the horse. F F are straps which pass around the belly, the latter being attached to the ring E.- E are the side straps. Gr is a forked strap attached to the ring E, which extends down, and is attached to U-shaped piece H, which contains a pulley, I. J is the draft-strap, which is attached to the lower end of the U-piece H. From this fastening it extends to a pulley, K, in the fetlock-piece L. From this pulley it extends back to the Upiece H, and over the pulley I, and from thence it extends forward under the bellyof the horse, and is fastened to the breast-buckle C, as represented. M is a brace-strap attached to the fetlock-piece L, and to a ring, N, in the strap O, beneath the belly of the horse.
By drawing upon the draft-strap J the .foot of the horse is drawn up, the knee-joint is bent, and the foot raised, and is held while the shoe is fastened.
This attachment is made to either hind or fore feet, and the labor and trouble of shoeing horses greatly lessened thereby.
Having thus described lny invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Let-ters Patent- A harness to be used in shoeing horses, constructed substantially as described-that is, consisting of the breast-buckle O, back or rump ring E, U-shaped piece H, pulley I, draft-strap J, fetlock-piece L, and pulley K, with the straps connected therewith.
ISAAC PIERSON PIOKERING.
