Description

ROBERT McINTYRE.
Improvement in Animal-Pokes.
Patented June 25,1872.
fiverzfat Mica/$42M UNITETD STATES ROBERT MOINTYRE, 0E BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN ANlMAL-POKES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,236, dated June 25, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT MCIN'IYRE, of Boston, in the county of Sufiolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Animal-Pokes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, referencebeinghad to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side View of my poke as applied to the horse.
The object of my invention is to make a poke that will keep an animal from jumping, but still not interfere with his natural movements in moving about, lying down, feeding, &c.; and consists of a rubber-tipped wooden or other suitable bar, which passes between the animals fore legs and strapped about the body, as hereinafter more fully described.
In the said drawing, A is a bar, of wood or other suitable material, bent a little from the center at or about the angle shown. At the end a is affixed rubber or other elastic tip, a, and near its center, and at the opposite end from the rubber tip, are slots b b. This bar passes between the fore legs of the animal, and is fastened against his breast by a strap, B,
which passes through the slot b and over the animals back, being buckled at any convenient point. A strap, 0, passes through the slot 1) in the bar and over the withers of the animal, as shown in the drawing, and is also buckled at any point to bring the end with the elastic tip to any desired height. A short strap, D, connects the straps B and 0 about in a line with the spine of the animal, and has suitable buckles.
I am aware that pokes have been made by using a bar between the fore legs, such pokes having their outer ends supported by a line or strap attached to the horses head; but such I do not claim.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An animal-poke, secured to the body as described, having the tip a, and suspended from the withers by the strap 0, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
