'of metal of suitable gauge and has the opposed 10U p i parallel edges thereof bounded by the frame portions or moulding respectively designated 13 and 14 and has a frame member 15 arranged at one end thereof. The opposite end of the structure such as 16 is open to allow the inserts such as 17 to be introduced between and be removed from pockets designated 18. These pockets 18 are formed by the longitudinally extending members generally designated 19 which are spaced from each other in a vertical direction and thus with the base board provide pockets 18. It is understood that the frame members 13 and 14 are formed so that they operate to complete the pockets 18-18 located at the upper and lower termiY nations of the board. The structure thus formed which includes the base board 12, the frame'comprised of the elements 13, 14 and 15 and the members 19-19 are all secured together to form a unitary device which may be fastened to the wall 11, by means such as screws 20. Each of the members designated 19 which when associated with another similar member and the base board provide guideways for the inserts 17 as most clearly shown in Fig. 5k from which it may be seen that each of these members is comprised of a relatively thin narrow strip 21 which is provided with a plurality of elements generally designated 22 which are disposed in spaced relationv to each other longitudinally of the strips and thus provide openings 23 between said elements. These openings provide means through which particles of chalk may pass and thus prevent their lodging in the guideway formed by the strips and the other elements hereinbeforer referred to.

vBy referring particularly to Figs. 5, 6, and 7 it'will be noted that each of the elements 22 is formed so that they are substantially T-shaped in cross section which thus provides the portion 24 and the elongated element 25, the latter of which provides a ton e adapted for insertion in an opening suc as 26 provided in the base board 12. By referring to Figs. 5, 6 and 7 it will be noted that the tongue portion 25 is of a substantially lesser width than the portion 24 and'fthus produces a face 27 which rests against the forward face of the base board and holds the strip 21 in spaced relation t0 the base board to thereby form a groove 28 vin which the insert 17 may be removably arranged. The'tongue 25 and the aperture or opening 26 provided in the base board are of a. dimension which provides a snug fit between the tongue and the material surrounding the opening and therefore when the edge of the tongue is peened over as indicated at 29 the strip designated 19 and its associated elements is substantially held with relation to the base board. It will be noted that when the strip generally designated 19 and its associated elements, generally designated 22, is associated with ,thev

base board that said elements 22 provide a support for the insert 17 which will allow the removal and association of the insert and will cooperate with the base board and the strip 21 to accomplish this last mentioned function.

By referring particularly to Figs. 1, 2 and 4 it will be noted that the elements 13, 14 and 15 which form parts of the frame for the base board 12 are recessed as indicated at 30 (see Fig. 2) to receive the base board, the base board and the element 13 being held in associated relation by means of the screw 31. It will be further noted that the element 13 is provided with a longitudinally extending groove 32 which is formed vby the overhanging portion 33 of the element 13 and the base board 12 which will thus provide a guide which is completed by the adjacent member 19. It will be noted that the lower element 14 rwhich forms part of the frame for the device is provided with elements 34 to correspond in construction and function with the portions designated 22 and clearly shown in Figsr5, 6 and 7 and thus openings 35-35 are provided in the element 14 which align with the openings 23 and allow the particles of chalk to drop from one pocket such as 18 to another and prevent their becoming lodged between the elements forming the` pockets'18 and thus interfere with the insertion and removal of the inserts 17.

In the foregoing description of the structure`to accomplish the invention, it is manifest that a means is provided whereby theV insert 17 maybe readily arranged in the pockets and be removed therefrom and in which the pockets are each provided with one or more openings through which the particles of chalk may pass and thus prevent cloggingrof the guideways. It is further evident that the construction of each of the members such as 19 which form an'element of the pocket or guideway is by means of the parts 22 provided with means whereby the strips may be securely fastened to the base board, which in addition, provide meansL for supporting the inserts and holding the strip 21 in proper relation to the base board.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim and desire to cover by Letters Patent is: y n

1. In a device of the kind described the combination of a member providing a base board, a plurality of parallelspaced longitudinallyl extending elements providing guides, and supports for supporting a member adapted to be inserted between said guides, said -supports being arranged at one side of said elements at intervals of the length of said elements to provide passages between said supports.

2. In a ydevice of the kind described the combination of a member providing a base board, a plurality of spaced longitudinally extending guide elements, said elements having means providing for the reception of a member* adapted to be inserted between said guide elements, said elements providing supports and saidsupports including aipluralbetween pairs oi said connecting means.

4. In a device of the kind described the combination of` a member providing a base board, a plurality of longitudinally extending strips secured to said base board, said lstrips providing guides for inserts adapted to be arranged between said strips, means for connecting said strips to said base board, said means includingelements arranged lengthwise of said strips in spaced relation to each other to thereby provide a passage between pairs of said connecting means, said connecting means providing means for engaging and supporting said inserts.

5. In a device of the kind described the combination of a strip adapted to be secured to a base board, said strip having a plurality of elements extending from one face thereof which are ofy a lesser width than said strip,

one of said elements being arranged in spaced" relation to another lengthwise of said strip and having means for securing said strip in spaced relation to said base board and providing supporting means for an insert arranged in said space, said strip providing an element of a guide for said insert.

In a device 'of the kind described, the combination of a strip adapted to be secured to a baseboard, the board being apertured for the reception of an element of said strip, said strip having a plurality of elements extending from one face thereof, one of said elements being arranged in vspaced relation to another lengthwise of saidvstrip, said elements having a portion which is secured to said strip and is of a lesser width than said strip and having a portion extending therefrom providing means adapted to be inserted in v an aperture provided in said base to secure said strip to said base.

7. In a device of the kind described the combination of a member providing a base board, a plurality of longitudinally extend ing spaced strips secured to said base board, said strips having a plurality of elements which are of lesser width than said strips extending therefrom toward said base board providing means for securing said strips in spaced relation to said base board, said elements of one stripbeing arranged in spaced relation to each other longitudinally kof said strip, and providing spaces between said elements and said spaces of one strip being arranged in substantial vertical alignment with said spaces of an adjacent strip and providing vertical aligned passages.

8. In a device of the kind described, the combination of a base board having apertures provided therein, a strip, members extending from one face of said strip, said members being of a lesser width than said strip and cooperating with saidstrip and board to provide a guide, an element extending from each of said members adapted to be arranged kin said apertures insaid board, said element providing .means `for securing said strip to said board, and said members being arranged in spaced relation to each other lengthwise of said strip to provide an opening between said members.
