COMBINATION GARMENT Filed Aug. 29, 1950 H ll II II II II II H l '1 i 1 I NVENTOR I ATTORNEY Patented May 17, 1932 UNITED STATES, PATENT OFFICE KATHERINE E. CUNNINGHAM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE E. W. GOSSAB 00., OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF DELAWARE COMBINATION GARMENT Application filed August 29, 1930. Serial No. 478,591.
This invention relates to combination garments andhas for its object to provide'an improved garment of lightweight which will mold the figure throughout. A particular object of this invention is to provide a garment adapted to correctly confine 'and mold the busts and the abdomen with complete v tion garment comprises a corset of inelastic comfort to the wearer and to fit closely above and below the busts without exerting appreciable pressure thereon.
The above objects are accomplished, according to this invention, by a combination garment comprising a corset and brassiere,
said brassiere including a front portion of soft inelastic material adapted to cover the body across the busts and being sewn to the upper edge of the corset, end sections of similar material adapted to be crossed at the back, shoulder straps attached to the front portion and end sections, elastic straps attached to said end sections, and means for I fastening said straps to the back of the corset. In the preferred form of the invention the end sections are broader than the adjacent ends of the front portion of the brassiere and are sewn to the front portion and also down the side of the corset to a point adapted to lie belowthe diaphragm of the wearer, each end section having a pair of elastic straps attached thereto which terminate in a tab provided with means for fastening same to the back of the corset. The elastic straps of each pair diverge from the tab so that one. of
each pair is adapted to exert a pull along the lower part of its adjacent end section and across that portion of the corset adapted to cover the diaphragm and the other strap of each pair is adaptedto exert a pull along the upper portion of'its adjacentend section and cross the upper part of the front portion of the brassiere.
Due to the above described construction the figure is perfectly controlled across the diaphragm and the abdomen and the upper part of the front portion of the brassi'ere is held snugly against the body of the wearer above the busts while no uncomfortable pressure is exerted on the busts. The present construction confines the busts and gives them a correct uplift form.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a rear view of a figure showing a. pombination garment embodying the inven- Fig. 2 is a rear view of the garment shown in Fig. 1 with the brassiere in flat position.
As shown in the drawings, the combinamaterial having longitudinal side elastic portions 6 and 7, and garters 8. The corset opens at one side and is provided with hooks 9 and eyes 10 for fastening it about the wearer and has a portion 11 adapted to extend above the diaphragm of the wearer intermediate the busts. gusset 12 is inserted at the top'of the back 0 the corset to give added ad]ust ment. If desired, the corset may be boned.
The-brassiere comprises a front ortion 15 of inelastic soft material adapte to cover the body across the busts and is sewn to the upper edge of the corset. End sections 16 and 17 are sewn to the front portion 15 and down the sides of the corset at 18 and 19 to a point adapted to lie below the diaphragm and at about the waistline of the wearer.
The end sections are extended rearwardly beyond the sides to overlie the back of .the'
wearer of the garment. Each of the end sections have sewn thereto a pair of elastic,
will be kept in position yet permit freedom" of movement to the wearer. r
As clearly shown in Fig. 1,the endiselitimls 16 and 17 are adapted to be 'crflssedat" the back and the elastic straps25 and 26 of each pair diverge from their tab 27 so that the strap 26 is adapted to exert a transverse pull on the lower part of its adjacent-end section and across that portion of the corset adapted to cover the diaphragmrwhile the strap 25 isadapted to" exert a pull along the upper the elastic straps attached to the end section the brassiere, without variation, will correctly fit figures whose bust girths difl'er considerably.
The end sections of the brassiere being crossed at the back and fastened to the corset tend to exert an upward pull on the front of the brassiere thereby giving the desired uplift form to the figure.
- The invention claimed is:
- 1. A combination garment comprising a corset and a brassiere, said brassiere comprising a front ortion adapted to cover the body across the 8 upper edge of the corset, end sections adapted to be crossed at the back and terminating in pairs of elastic straps and means for fastenmg said stra s to the back of the corset, sald straps in eac pair diverging from the point adapted to be fastened to the corset so that one strap of each pair is adapted to exert a pull along the lower edge of its ad acent end section and the other strap of each 'palr 1s adapted to exert a pull along the upper edge I corset and a brassieerci said brassiere com ris- -of its adjacent end section.
2. A combination garment com risin' a corset having elastic garters and a rassiere,
said brassiere comprising a front portionof soft inelasticmaterial ada' ted to cover the body across the busts and ing sewn to the uppgr edge of the corset, end sections adapted to crossed at the back and terminating in .pairs of elastic straps, shoulder straps of elastic material attached to the front portion and the end sections, and means for fastening said straps to the back of the corset, the first said straps in each pair divering fromthe point adapted to be fastened to the corset so that one strap of each pair is adapted to exert a (pull along the lower edge of its adj acent en section and the other strap of each pair is adapted to exert a pull along the upper edge of its adjacent end. section.
3.. A combination garment comprising a ing a front portion a apted to cover the d across. the busts and being attached to the upper edge of the corset, end sections ter- 'minating in elastic straps, said end sections 1 -"being sewn to saidfront'portion'and down the side of the corset \to aboutthe-waistline and adapted 'to' be crossed at the back,
usts and being attached to the.
prising a front portion adapted to cover the body across the busts and being sewn to the u'pperedge of the corset, end sections terminatin in pairsof elastic straps, said end sections ing sewn to said front portion and down the slde of the corset to about the waist 74 line and adapted to be crossedv at the back, shoulder straps -attached to the front portion and the end sections, and means for fastening said pairs of elastic straps to the back of the corset, said straps in eachpair diverging from the point adapted to be fastened to the corset so that one strap of each pair is adapted to exert a pull along the lower edge of its adjacent end section and across that portion of the corset adapted to.cover the diaphragm} and the other strap of each pair is ada ted to exert a pull along theupper edge 0 its adjacent end section and across the upper part of the front portion of the brassiere adaptedto' cover the body above the busts. 5. A combination garment comprising a corset anda brassiere, said brassiere comprising a front portion attached to the upper edge of the corset and adapted to cover the b0 y across the busts, end sections secured to the front portionof-the brassiere and down the sides of the corset to about the waistline, and means for fastening said end sections to the back of the corset, said end sections being crossed when fastened to the back of the cor-,, M 'set.
