Description

No.'1.85,708. P aaaa ted Dec.26, 1876.
UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS UTTZ, OF NORA SPRINGS, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BRUSHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185.708, dated December 26, 1876; application filed June 20, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS UTTZ, of Nora Springs, Floyd county, Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Broom-Brush, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 represents a top view of my improved broom-brush Fig. 2, a vertical longitudinal section on line 0 c, Fig. 3 and Fig. 3 a bottom view of the brush-head. showing arrangement of broom-winding wires.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to a simple and durable construction of broom-brushes, and consists of a brush-head, with a recessed bottom and side lugs, in connection with a broomwhisk faste11ing-wire, that is wound around right angles to the edge of the brush-head,
and at the other end in diagonal direction to the same, and at the other side in reversed order.
A narrow center groove or extension, b, of the bottom recess of the head, serves to guide the wire B to the nail, screw, or other device, d, that secures the end of the wire.
The wire B is fastened in similar manner at the handle end, and then passed by'two or more windings around the brush-head and the first broom-whisk, then diagonally along the inclined ends of the lugs over the fastened whisk ends to the next whisk, and then around the same, and the head, and so on throughout the brush, until the outer end of the same is reached, when the wire is fastened as described, as shown in Fig. 3.
The recesses of the lugs secure, in connection with thefastening-wire, the broom-Whisks firmly in position in the recessed bottom of the brush-head, and form a neat and strong brush, to which the windings of the fasteningwire at the upper part of the head impart an ornamental appearance.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of a bottom recessed brush-head, having side lugs with square and diagonal ends, with a continuous wire that is passed around the head and broomwhisks, and secured at the ends, to fasten the broom-Whisks firmly, substantially as specitied.
