My invention relates to manicure devices and more especially to that kind, which are used for whitening the inside of the pro ecting finger-nail. Such manicure devices have the outward appearance of a short pencil, preferably round and pointed at one end, like a sharpened pencil, so as to expose the whitening material which forms the core of the device in a similar way as the lead of a .10 lead pencil.

Now, the object of my invention is to combine with the whitener a cleaner, or a brush, or both so as to thereby add to the function of the device, making the same more useful and practical.

As shown in Fig. 1, the pencil-like device, preferably made of Wood and of round shape,

central body part 4, similar to the body part 1 in Fig. 1, encloses a core of whitening material, which core protrudes from the pointed end on the left in Fig. 2 as shown at 5. In this manner, the manicure device combines with the whitener a brush, whereby the excess of whitening appflfied to a finger nail can easily be brushed o Another modification is'shown in Fig. 3, showing the manicure device of Fig. 1, comprising a central body part 8, a whitener tip 9, and a pointed cleaner 10. But, in addition, there is provided a brush in the shape of a protecting cap 11, carrying at its end a small brush shown at 12. The protectin cap 11, which is preferably made of meta but also may be made of celluloid, bakelite,

or other suitable material, forms a separate manicure element and can at the same time be used, either to protect the pointed cleaner or the whitener tip of the device. In this manner, a cleaner, whitener and brush are united in a single device, greatly increasing the uses of the same.

Fig. 4 shows the device of Fig. 2 comprising a central body part 13, a whitener 14 and a brush 15, and in addition thereto a protect ing cap 16 made of any desired suitable material and'having a pointed end 17, which in this case is used as the cleaner, at the same time serving as a protecting cap for either the brush or the whitener.

Obviously, the central body part of the device may be given any desired shape or crosssectlon, and 1t may be made ofany desired suitable material, as long as 1t encloses a core of a whitening material or any other desired color and is shaped to provide at its opposite end either a cleaner or a brush, to be used in, combination with the whitener or other coloring element. If the central part is made of wood, the pointed end shown in Figs. 1 and 3 respectively at 3 and 10 may be made of the same Wood as the body or a harder wood, or other suitable material may be used which in any suitable manner or by any suitable means is secured to the body-part.

WhileI have described a device to be used for manicuring purposes, it is readily conceivable that the same may also be used for other purposes, such as for coloring articles, or s mllar purposes, 1n WhlCh case the brush may be used as an artists brush.

I claim:

1. A manicure device comprising a pencillike body having a 'manicuring element at each end thereof, a cap for selective engagement over either end of the body, and a third manicuring element carried by the cap.

2. A manicuring device as set forth in claim 1 in which the 'manicuring element at I one end of the body comprises a pointed formation and in which the mam'curing element carried by the cap comprises a brush.-

' 3. A manicuring element as set forth in I claim 1 in which the manicuring element at one end of the body'comprises a brush and in which the manicuring element carried by the cap comprises a pointed formationat the outer end of the cap. I
