HAIR WAVING DEVICE Filed July 22, 1951 gwoentoc Patented Apr. 19, 1932 TOY NETTE F. WEST, OF CHURDAN, IOWA HAIR WAVING DEVICE Application filed July 22, 1931.
This invention relates to a hair waving device and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of suchcharacter by means of which a woman may wave her own hair with sub stantially the same results as are usually obtained only through the services of professional hair wavers.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the character aforesaid which includes a plurality of anchoring combs and a plurality of sets of waving combs alternately arranged with respect to the anchoring combs.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more particularly described, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, but it is to be understood that the drawings and description are to be considered as illustrative rather than limitative.
In the accompanying drawings in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is an elevation showing a hair waving device in accordance with this invention in applied position.
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the anchoring combs equipped with retaining means for a set of waving combs.
Figure 3 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the anchoring combs without the retaining means.
Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the waving combs.
Figure 5 is an enlarged perspective view of the securing elements for the anchoring combs.
Figure 6 is an enlarged sectional detail showing a waving comb and a pair of anchoring combs in section and further showinga retaining means for-the waving comb in elevation.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the
Serial No. 552,51 1.
the head of a wearer with the central portion V i of the element abutting the forehead of the wearer, and with the end portions of the element terminating adjacent the ears of the wearer. The element 1 is provided at its rear ends with a pair of flexible tie members 3 which are adapted to be brought together and tied at the nape of the neck of the wearer, and'the rearmost pair of the V-shaped parts 2 are provided with a similar pair of flexible tie members 4 which are adapted to be brought together and tied beneath the chin tion by means of flexible loops 8 attached to the free ends thereof and which engage the hooks 5 disposed. on the element 1. Arranged between the anchoring combs 6 are sets of waving combs 9. Preferably each set of the combs 9 will consist of three combs which are arranged in end to end relation 3 between a pair of the anchoring combs 6. The wavlng combs 9 are retained in posltion by means of flexible retaining elements 10 secured to certain of the anchoring combs 6, the retaining elements 10 extending transversely across the waving combs 9 and being provided with hooks l1 for'detachable engagement with the anchoring. combs 6 on the opposite sides of the waving combs 9-respectively.
In the use of the device, the securing element 1 is positioned on the head and secured in place by means of the tie members 3, 4. The anchoring combs 6 are then positioned in spacedirelation around the head and are secured by means of their loops 8 to the hooks 5, on element 1. \Vhile bracing the anchoring combs 6 thus positioned with one hand, the other hand is employed for successively positioning the wavingcombs 9 of a set between a pair of anchoring combs 6. In positioning a comb 9, the teeth 12 of the latter are firmly embedded in the hair, after which the comb is moved transversely of the head to provide a wave between the anchoring combs 6 on opposite sides of the waving comb. After positioning each of the combs 9, the latter is firmly secured in place by a pair of flexible retaining elements 10, carried by an anchoring comb on one side of the waving comb and en aging by their hooks 11, with the anchoring 0 mb at the other side oi the waving comb. The members 10 extend across the waving comb. After the first set of waving combs is secured in position, additional anchoring combs (3 as required are secured to the element 1, and a set of the waving combs 9 is positioned between each added anchoring comb and the formerly applied anchoring comb nearest thereto.
It is thought that the many advantages of a hair waving device in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, so long as such changes fall within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
hat I claim is:
1. A hair waving device comprising, a securing element adapted to be extended along opposite sides of the head of a wearer, a plurality of anchoring combs having their ends secured to said element, a plurality of waving combs alternately arranged with respect to the anchoring combs, and a plurality of retaining elements extending transversely across the waving combs and having their ends secured to the anchoring combs.
2. A hair waving device comprising, a securing element adapted to be extended along opposite sides of the head of a wearer, a plurality of anchoring combs having their ends secured to said element, sets of waving combs alternately arranged with respect to the anchoring combs, the combs of each set being arranged in end to end relation, and a plurality of retaining elements extending transversely across the waving combs and having their ends secured to the anchoring combs.
3. A hair waving device comprising, a semirigid securing element adapted to be extended along opposite sides of the head of a wearor, a plurality of upstanding hooks secured to the securing element, a plurality of anchoring combs having inwardly extending teeth for engaging the hair, flexible means connecting the ends of the anchoring combs with said hooks, a plurality of waving combs alternately arranged with respect to the anchoring combs, and a plurality of flexible retaining elements extending transversely across the waving combs for securing the latter in position.
4. A hair waving device comprising, a semi-rigid securing element adapted to be extended along opposite sides of the head of a wearer, a plurality of upstanding hooks secured to the securing element, a plurality of anchoring combs having inwardly extending teeth for engaging the hair, flexible means connecting the ends of the anchoring combs with said hooks, a plurality of waving combs alternately arranged with respect to the anchoring combs, and a plurality of flexible retaining elements extending transversely across the waving combs for securing the latter in position, each of said retaining elements being secured to an anchoring comb and having a hook for detachable connection with an adjacent anchoring comb.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature hereto.
