This invention relates to improvements in nozzles, and its objects are to provide a nozzle with a plurality of spray orifices for covering greater area with a spray, to provide means for releasing pressure in the spray nozzle whereby it may be readily detached from a hose prior to shutting E the water supply, and to provide means for diminishing the area of the spray issuing from either orifice.
The drawings illustrate a form of the invention which I have so far found to be the most practical in use, but I reserve the right to minor changes, alterations and modifications that may fall within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of a spray nozzle embodying the features of the present invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the spray nozzle. Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of the nozzle with all movable parts removed. Fig. 5 is a top plan of the pressure release valve. Fig. 6 is a side elevation of the pressure release valve.
Referring to the drawings, the nozzle body 11, has a threaded part 12 adapted to engage with a hose (not shown), and has a hollow bore 13, and a standard 14 whereby it may be positioned and secured to the ground. Body 11 has an opening 15, normally covered by valve 16, which is retained in closed position by bail member 17, mounted on shaft 18, and engaging in groove 19, on valve 16. This allows the operator to release the water pressure in the hose, before going` to the shut of valve therefor, and allows the operator to quickly remove the spraying nozzle. To release valve 16, the operator shifts bail member 17, rearwardly. The nozzle body 11 has an initial spray orifice 20 having suitable inclination for throwing the spray at the greatest distance. With orifice 20, no spray will be thrown close to the nozzle. A small opening 26 leads from the hollow bore 13 to an additional spray orifice 21, which is provided and is adapted for throwing the spray closer to the nozzle. For limiting the area of the spray, I provide side guards 22, each independently mounted on shaft 23, and provid- 5o ed with inner projections 24, adapted to engage with corresponding sockets 25 in body 11. Either guide may be shifted and adjusted to shut off the spray on the corresponding side of the nozzle body, or both may be adjusted to throw spray in a narrow body fi and direct line from the front face of the nozzle.
From the foregoing description and drawings, it may be seen-that I have provided a spray nozzle, capable of delivering spray ifo over a large area, capable of spraying adj acent to the nozzle, and capable of throwing the spray to either side only relative to the position of nozzle and attached hose.

What is claimed is 1. In a spray nozzle, a body member, having a plurality of spray orifices, said orices extending on the top and either side of the body member, and means disposed on either so side of the body member for closing the spray orifices on the corresponding side.
