Our invention relates to vacuum cleaner nozzles and particularly to nozzles comprising bristles which are relatively soft and which are adapted for picking up flufi. and threads.
The invention will be understood from the following description taken in connection drawings showing several embodiments thereof, which drawings constitute a part of this specification and, of which:
Fig. 1 is a view principally in cross-section of a nozzle in accordance with the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a side view of the nozzle shown in Fig. 1 in accordance with the invention.
Our improved nozzle includes a body member consisting of an annular plate or ring n which is preferably made of any mouldable material such as bakelite or the like. Plate 02- is secured to a connecting member 6 by means of screw bolts 0 and nuts p. The nuts ;0 are preferably moulded fast into plate at.
I Bristles g are secured in plate at and extend downwardly as shown. Within the bristles, so as to be surrounded thereby, is a resilient hollow member 1'. Member T has a rounded middle portion and a lower edge which is inturned and curved upwardly, as shown, toward the body member 11.. Member r passes within the central opening in plate n and has an upper flange t which covers the upper side of plate n. Integral with flange t is a downturned edge a which covers the outer edge of plate oz. Since member 1- is made of resilient material, this edge u serves as a protection for furniture and other articles being cleaned. Flange t is held between connecting member 6 and plate 91. by means of bolts 0 and nuts p. The joint is simple in construction and yet provides an air-tight joint.
Since the rubber or other resilient material of which member 1- is made may deteriorate after a period of time, the construction is such that this member may be replaced-from time to time. The replacement is effected by unscrewing screws 0 and separating the parts. The nuts p remain in plate at.
- The bristles g extend downwardly around and beyond the member 1'. These bristles are relatively soft and are designed to bend in.
operation of the nozzle. The rounded surface of hollow member 1- prevents undue bending of the bristles and'thereby protects the bristles from injury. Due to the construct 1on and arrangement of the parts, the bristles 11c along the curved surface of member 7' and follow the line of flow of-the suction air. Consequently, small threads, dirt and the like cannot remain therein. It will be appreciated that the member 9* is bendableand that bendmg of the same varies the suction opening. The connecting member 6 is connected to the SllCtlOIl tube of a vacuum cleaner and air is drawnthrough the bristles, through the men1- ber 1' and through the connectingmember e to the suction-producing means.
While we one form of the invention, it will be understood that the invention is not limited to the farm described but is to be gauged by the terms of the appended claims takenin conunction with the state of the prior art.
What we claim is:
1. A nozzle for vacuum cleaners comprismg an annular member, a hollow member made of resilient material having a rounded portlon extending downwardly from said an nular member, the upper portion of said hollow member extending through said annular member and over the top side and outside edge thereofiand bristles secured in said annular member extending downwardly around and beyond said rounded portion. 7
2. A nozzle for vacuum cleaners comprising an annular member, a hollow member made of resilient material having a rounded portion extending downwardly from said annular member, the upper ortion of said 1101- low member extending t rough said annular member and over the top side and outside edge thereof, and bristles secured in said annular member extending downwardly around and beyond said rounded portion agd said rounded portion having an inturned e ge.
3. A nozzle for vacuum cleaners comprising an annular member, a hollow member made of resilient material having a rounded portion extending downwardly from said have illustrated and described annular member, the upper portion of said hollow member extending through said annular member and over the top side and outside edge thereof, bristles secured to said annular member extending downwardly around and beyond said rounded portion, and a connecting member, said hollow member being secured between said connecting member and said annular member.
4. A nozzle for vacuum cleaners comprismg an annular member, a hollow member made of resilient material having a rounded portion extending downwardly from said annular member, the upper portion of said hollow member extending through said annular member and over the top side and outside edge thereof, bristles secured to said annular member extending downwardly around and beyond said rounded. portion, a connecting member and means for securing said hol- ,.1ow member between said connecting member and-said annular member comprising screw bolts passing through the connecting member, the annular member and the hol- 5 low member, and nuts for said bolts embedded in the annular member.
In testimony whereof-we have hereunto affixed our signatures.
