The invention relates to the reclamation of journal packing as of oily waste or wool or other brous material or a mixture thereof, which has been used as a packing for journal boXes'as of railway cars, and it is anobject of the invention to provide an apparatus for removing foreign material from used packing of the nature described and for flufng up the cleansed packing into condition for again sat- 9 urating with oil for use in journal boxes.
It is a further object of the invention to provide an apparatus of the character referred to which may be operated by a single attendant, the portions of the apparatus being 5 brought together into a single assembly whereby the attendant may put the journal packing through the process of cleaning without moving from one position to another.
It is a further object of the invention to 9 provide an apparatus of the characterdescribed having means for iluffing cleansed packing and for removing short fibres and foreign material as pieces of metal therefrom.
It is a further object of the invention to provide an improved process of reclaiming journal packing material. v

Journal packing of the nature under consideration is usually cotton waste which is saturated with oil and placed in the journal boxes. After a period of use, the packing becomes unfit for use because of the collection of dust, metal cuttings or other particles of metaltherein, and because portions of the cotton waste become broken into short libres which causes the waste to form too dense Ya mass in the journal boX to efficiently apply the oil to the journal. Thefhead 22 may be supported above" the' shelf 21" and moved over the material by the provision of channel guides 26, 27, in which the ends of the head are adapted to slide. The attendant may operate the blower by grasping the pipe 23 and moving the head in the channels with the compressed air turned on, and as the head is reciprocated over the material, the attendant may carry out additional shaking action byv means of his free hand to loosen dirt, dust or other foreign material or short fibres which may be blown through the shelf 21 into a frustoconical chamber 28 from which it may escape through openin 29.
By the assem ly of the apparatus shown,
an attendant standing in front of the centrifuge between the shelves 16 and 21 may carry out the entire process without moving from his position, thus providing an apparatus adapted to very expeditiously, cheaply and efficiently carry out the entire reclamation of the material. g It is understood that the receptacle in which the material is brought to the apparatus for treatment may be placed by the side of the shelf 16 and a second receptacle for reception of treated material by the side of the shelf 2l. The treated material may be lifted from the shelf 2l into the last named receptacle and again saturated with oil ready for shipment to the point of use.
' Minor changes may be made in the physical embodiment of the invention without departing from the spirit thereof within the scope of the appended claims.
' I claim:
1. Apparatus for reclaiming journal packing comprising a chamber member, a foraminous support disposed over said member, s aced walls extending upwardly from the c amber member providing spaces between their ends for the application, agitation and removal of packing, said walls at a substantial distance above said support having grooves, and a nozzle to discharge air towards said support, said nozzle being guided in said grooves and maintained at a corresponding distance from the support.
2. Apparatus for reclaiming journal packing comprising a chamber member, a foraminous support thereover, walls extending upwardly from the chamber member providing space for the application, agitation and removal of packing, said walls at a substantial distance above said support having grooves open at one end, a nozzle to discharge air towards said support consisting of a perforated pipe guided in said grooves and maintained thereby at a corresponding distance from the support, said pipe being applicable and removable through the open ends of the grooves, and an air supply connection for the pipe disposed intermediate said walls and constituting an operating handle.
