' ijs WITNESSES s NITED STATES PATENT Enron,
JAMES PAGE CLAIR, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCHOOL-SEATS.
Specification forming part of Letters .Patent No. 185,213, dated December 12, 1876; application filed February 21, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES PAGE CLAIR, of Philadelphia, in the county ot' Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Combined School Desk and Seat, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a lateral stud on the side of the short arm of the seat-support, working in a curved slot of the standard between rubber-spring buffers at each end to relieve the shocks, and render the seat noiseless, and hooking around the wall of the slot to support the pivot.
Figure l is a transverse sectional elevation of my improved desk and seat, taken on the lateral stud on the short arm of the seat-support working in the curved slot G, in which are two elastic buffers, H, one at each end, to relieve the shocks and prevent noise. The stud also works inthe slot Without friction on the sides, and thus avoids noise.
The studs hook around the edge of the inner wall of the slot, as shown at K, so as to tend to keep the seat-supports on the pivots. L represents the book-rests in the desk-top M, said rests being arranged in the upper part with a button, N, underneath, so that they can be readily adjusted by running the hand under the top M and pushing up the rack' and the button.
Having thus described myinvention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A rBhe lateral stud F, of the short arm of the seat-support, working in slot Cr, and hooking around the wall of the same, in the manner described, to hold the seat-arm on the pivotstud, substantially as specified.
JAMES P. CLAIR. XVitnesses:
