EXERCISING DEVICE Filed April 10, 1931 INVENTORZ His ATTORNEYS.
Pittman". 29, 1932 21mm amonen P'I'ACEK, or murnwoon, rumors V mncrsmo DEV-ICE Application and April o, 1031. Serial No. 520,191.
This invention relates to certain novel imrovements in exercising devices, and has for its principal ob ect the rovision of an improved construction of t ischaracterwhlch in manufacture.
It is an object of this invention to provide a device for exercising the muscles of the jaws, and mouth, and the gums.
10 Another object of the invention is to prodevice which will: fit the' vide an exercisin articulation of t e up er and lower teeth of different persons an rest comfortably in the mouth during use. Other objects will appear hereinafter. The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts tob'e hereinafter described and claimed. I
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 22 in ig. 3 is a sectional view on line in.
Fi 2; and
Tn the drawings which illustrate a practical embodiment of the invention, a rubber biting grip for the front upper teeth is indicated at .10 and is secured to a plate 11 of metal or other material by rubber studs 12. A U-sh'aped jaw 15 interconnects the upper and lower plates 11 and 16 which carry the rubber biting grips 10 and 18 and the upper arm of this jaw 15 plate 11 has struck out lips 13 depending therefrom and under which is removably inserted the upper arm of a U-shaped sprin 14 which lies'inside of a similarly shape metal jaw 15 which is integrally connected at its upper end with the rear side of the plate 11. The lower arm of will be highly efiicient in use and economical g. 4 is a sectional view on line 4-4 in the jaw 15 is connected to the rear side of a plate 16 to which is attached by the rubber studs 1.7 a biting grip 18 adapted to receive the front teeth of the lower jaw.
The lower arm of the spring 14 is remova bly inserted under a leaf 19 which is pivotaL ly attached to the plate 16 by a suitable connecting element 20 while the upper arm of the spring 14 is removably inserted under the lips 13, so that the spring 14 may be removed and the device used without it, in the event the jaw muscles are weak, while after the muscles have been strengthened the spring 14 may be removed by removing the screw 20 and then liftin the leaf 19 which has ears 21 de ending therefrom through slots '22 in the p ate 16, the ears 21 normally holding the leaf l9 and the lower arm of spring 14 in pro er osition.
Whi e I ave illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. An exercising device of the character stated, comprising a substantially U-shaped jaw including a pair of normally s aced g v apart arms, a plate at the end of each 0 said arms, and a resilient biting grip on each of said plates.
2. An exercising device of the character stated, comprising a substantially U-sha-ped 5 jaw including a pair of normally 5 aced apart arms, a plate at the end of each 0 said arms, and'a resilient biting grip on each of said plates, a U-shaped spring member adapt ed to be removably mounted between said arms, and means for removably securing said member to said arms.
spring i 3.- n exercising device of the character stated, comprising a substantially U-shaped jaw including a pair of normally s aced apart arms, a plate-at the end of each 0 said arms, and a resilient biting grip on each of said plates, a U-shaped spring member adapted to be removably mounted between said arms, and means for removably securing said s ring member to said arms, said means inc uding a leaf pivotally mounted on the inner si e of one of said arms and adapted to have one end of said spring member inserted thereunder.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
PETER GEORGE PTACEK.
