Ma 1932. w. c. LINDEMANN I 1,851,353
BROILER;
Original Filed July-22. 192"! gvwwwoz Ma/172 a,
' meme "29, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE WALTER O. LINDEMANN, O1 MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, ASBIGNOB TO A. J. LINDEW 6; HOVEBBON COMYANY, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, A CORPORATION 01' W18- CONSIN BBOILER Application filed July is, 1927, Serial No. 207,852. Renewed December 80, 1981.
The improvements relate to broilers adapt ed to be used in connection with gas ovens and or removed therefrom, so that when it is not in use it may, if desired, be entirely removed from the stove and stored away so that it will not become damaged or fouled by soot, and dirt or by food being cooked on the stove top 15 or in the oven.
The improvements are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of a gas oven and supporting frame with the broiler embodying the improvements in position there; and
' Fig. 2 is a similar view of the oven bottom with the broiler opened and partly removed therefrom.
The oven 1 may be of any suitable form and should be provided with oven heating burners and broiling burners (not shown) in its bottom. These are not a part of the present improvements, which are designed to be used with ovens and burners of any satisfactory character. The oven is supported on frames 2 at either enclthereof, and these frames in turn may be supported on the stove top.
To the bottom of the oven 1 are fixed a pair of substantially U-shaped tracks 3 horizontally arranged and adapted to receive the horizontal flanges 5 of the-broiler compartment so that the entire broiler may be moved to position under the oven bottom and removed thereon. The flanges 5 extend across the front of the broiler compartment as well as along its sides. They do not, however, necessarily extend across the back and terminate at the rear edge of the compartment, so
that the latter may be entirely removed from the oven bottom without manipulatingany connection. k
The broiler compartment consists of two sides 6, a back 7 and a bottom 8 which is provided with perforations 9 at the front. To
the front edge of the bottom a door 10 is hinged, so as to open downwardly to give the user access to the interior of the broiler compartment and a view thereof without drawing the latter out, and also to permit the insertion and removal of the pan 11, which is ada ted to be removed and replaced at different evels on the slides 12. At the upper corners of the door hooks 13 are provided to engage over the pins 14 projecting laterally from the sides of the broiler near the top, to hold the door in closed position, andat the bottom corners of the door are downwardly extending lugs 15 which engage the bottom of the broiler compartment when the door is opened to horizontal position and hold it.
The door is provided with a handle 15' by Y .removed and replaced and stored away when not in use. is provided. Y
At each side of the compartment atthe forward end and near the bottom a. hinge member 16 isrsecured. This member has a cup-like extension 16' which receives the ends of a-hinge pin 17 on theinner edge of the door and extending laterally therefrom. The recess of the cup is somewhat larger than the end of the pin, and therefore permits it to move to a certain extent therein, so that when the door is closed the hooks 13 will be permitted to raise the door a little in passing over their pins 14. This also brings the lower edge of the door and the lower edge of the compartment into close contact.
I claim:
1. In a cooking range, the combination of an oven, spaced trackways mounted thereon, a broiler compartment having an open said compartment adapted to close said'open front and to support the withdrawn pan when open, and said slidable means and trackways constructed to afford complete re moval of said compartment from said oven.
2. In a cooking range, the combination of an oven, spaced trackways thereunder, a
broiler compartment having an open top and 0 on front, slidable means operatively associated with said compartment and coo erating with said trackways to support sai compartment, the walls flanking said 0 en front having ledges protruding inward y therefrom, a removable broiling pan sup orted on said led es, a hinged .door on em compartment a apted to close said open front and to support the withdrawn pan when open, and 'said'slidable means and trackways constructed to afl'ord complete removal of said compartment from beneath said oven.
3. In combination with an oven, a cooking compartment comprising a sliding broiler drawer, cooperating sliding means on said drawer and beneath said oven respectively for affording free travel of said drawer relative to said oven, the forward wall of said drawer being hinged at the bottom whereby it may be raised and lowered relative to said drawer, a handle on said forward wall whereby said drawer may moved by sliding'or said wall may be swung relative to said drawer, ledge members fixed to the interior side wallsof said drawer adapted to suspend a broiler pan therebetween, the arrangement being such that the hinged forward wall, when horizontally disposed, may serve to support articles such as a broiler pan.
4. In'combination with an oven, spaced trackways disposed beneath said oven, a broiler compartment having an open top and open front, means on said compartment and engaging said'trackways for afiording sliding of said compartment relative to said spaced trackways disposed thereon, a broil-1 er compartment having an open top. and front, means on said compartment and engaging said trackways for afiord'ing sliding of said compartment relative to said range, a combined door and support hinged adjacent the bottom of said compartment and positioned for swinging downwardly to open position and upwardly to close the open front of said compartment, spaced trackways disposed at the interior sides of said compartment and bein spaced from the bottom thereof, a remova 1e broiling pan supported on said last named trackways, said compartment being removable from said first named trackwa s and said pan being removable from sai second named trackways.
6. In combination with a cooking ran e, spaced trackways disposed thereon, a broi er compartment having an open-top and front, means on said compartment and engagin said trackways for affording sliding of sai I compartment, relative to said range, a combined door and support hinged a jacent the bottom of said compartment and positioned for swingin downwardly to 0 en position and upwardly to close the open ront of said compartment, spaced pan-holdin racks disposed on the interior sides of said compartment and s aced from the bottom thereof, a removable roilin an supported on said racks and being 'si able longitudinally on said racks through the front of said broiler com artment. itness m hand this 15th day of July,
