IMPROVEMENT IN CAR-.BERTH SUPPORTERS.
Specitication forming part of Letters Patent No. l 85,098, dated December 5, 1876; application tiled October 19, i876.
To 'all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS GRANT, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain Improvev ments in Oar-Berth Supporters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to theletters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to certain improve- -Inents in the jointed supporting-rods that support the outer ends ofthe upper berths of sleeping-cars; and this invention consists in a sleeve arranged on said rod, which, when the berth is open or down, will be slipped over the joint in said rod, and secured' in place by a set-screw, the purpose being to make the joint rigid when down, so that in case of the turning over of the car the berth Will be held open, and thus prevent the passenger from being injured by the closing of the berth and confined therein. y In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the central portion of the suspensionrod with my improvement attached.
