' U NITE D S ISi Mrs-Nr OFFICE- LEON L. ALLYN, F 4KAILAIVIAZOO, MICHIGAN, rASSIGNOIIR. T01` MASTERfORAFT i CORPORATION, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN Application filed November 11, 1929. Serial No. 406,229.
The main object of this invention is to provide a temporary binder having pivoted b1nd. ing members and a movable transfer bary which is very convenient to manipulate.
A yfurther object is to provide a temporary binder having a pivoted bindingbar provided with posts in which the binding bar may swing on its pivots in opening and closing the book ybut is yieldingly supported with its 3@ posts in upright position when the binder -is open.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of my invention will definitely appeanfrom the description to follow. The invention 1s 3 5 dened in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: n
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary inside perspective ao view of al binder embodying the features of my invention.
Fig. 2 isv a fragmentary view in section on line 2 2 of Fig. l with the binding or post bar in yupright position.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view corresponding to that of Fig. 2 with the binding bar 1n another position.`
Fig. 4 is a perspective viewof the sheet body and transfer bar removed from the 3c covers.
Fig. 5 is a sectional 'view Online 5 5 of Fig. 4.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary sectional view on line 6 6 of Fig. 4.
InY the embodiment illustrated the covers l and 2 are adjust-ably connected by means of the binding strips 3. A suitable adjusting mechanism for the binding strips is illustrated inthe patent to Bushong, No. 914,383,
y 4o dated March 9, 1909. This embodiment has a flexible back 4. The cover l carries a bind-` i.) The transfer bar 8 is removably associated with thebar2l, it being provided withy lugs 9 detachably engageable with holes l10 in the binding bar 2l. f The transfer bar 8 is provided'with two posts l1 opposite the lugs9.
The sheetbody 12' has holes 13 adapted to receive the posts 7 of the binding bars 6 and holes I4 adapted to receive'the posts 1l ofthe transfer bar 8 so that the sheets may be lifted as a unit from the posts 7 andreplaced thereon'as a unit. f f
In order to facilitate the manipulation of the ,binder I provide means for supporting the post bar 6 in upright position. This means in the structure illustrated comprises a blade spring 15k riveted to the inner side of the cover l at 16 and havingitsfree end yI7 curved outwardly `relative to the y.longitudinal plane of the ycoverand lyinginen-k f gagement with the binding bar 6 so that when this binding bar is swung to its erected yposi'- tion, as shownin Figig2, it is yieldingly supported by the spring in suitable position to receivethe sheet body. This very greatlyv facilitates the manipulation of the binder, particularly the placing of the sheets therein. I have illustrated my improvements as embodied in binders having flexible binding strips. I have not attempted to illustrate or vdescribe various other adaptations or embodiments oflmy improvements as it is be' lieved that this disclosure will enable those skilled in the art to embody or adapt thev of coacting covers, connecting means for the covers, kbinding bars pivotally mounted on the covers, yone of said binding bars being j provided with posts, a transfer bar provided with posts removably associated with the other binding bar, and a spring ymeans for yieldingly supporting said post-carrying binder bar in upright position on its cover.
2. In a temporary binder, the combination with covers, and connecting means for said covers, of a binding bar pivotally mounted on one of said covers and provided with'y 4 posts, a` transfer bar provided with posts re-A movably associated with said binding bar, and a blade spring having an outwardly curved free end mounted on the cover carrying said binding bar to engage the inner side thereof and acting to yieldingly support the bar with its posts in upright position.
3. In a temporary binder, the combination with covers, and connecting means for said covers, of a binding bar pivotally mounted on one of said covers and provided 'with posts, a transfer bar provided with posts removably associated With said binding bar, and a spring means for yieldingly supporting said binding bar with its posts in upright position on its cover.
,4. In a temporary binder, the combination with covers, and connecting means for said covers, of a binding bar pivotally mounted -on one `of said covers and provided with posts, a transfer bar provided with `posts removably associated with said binding bar and a lblade spring having an outwardly cur-ved free end mounted on'the cover carryingfsaid binding bar to engage the inner side thereof and acting to yieldinglysupport the bar with litsfposts in upright position.
Ina temporary binder, the combination with covers, and connecting means for said covers, of a binding bar pivotally' mounted on one of said covers and provided with posts, a transfer bar provided vvithposts removably associated With said binding bar and a spring means 'for yieldingly supporting said binding bar with said posts in upright nposition on its cover.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set 'my hand.
LEON L. ALLYN.
