INDEX CARD CARRIER Filed Jan. 14, 1929 munm w w @121 w W ZZLTSZEI'Z 2522*" 060396 Jiflawson.
I'ZQL Patented .Mar. 22, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFIce? COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS INDEX CARD CARRIER Application filed January 14, 1929. Serial No. 332,452.
This invention relates to a card carrier which is adapted for sustaining a card in a visible overlapping index and concerns itself with a novel structure from which the card can be readily detached or to which it can be easily applied.
The invention comprises the novel structure and combination of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out and defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment of this invention and in which similar reference numerals refer to similar features in the different views:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a portion of the card carrier.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the part of the carrier shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary partsectional and part-perspective view of the carrier.
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary and perspective View of the carrier.
Figure 5 is an enlargedfragmentary'per- 1 spective view of the reinforcement of the carrier.
The card carrier involving this invention consists of a main sheet-metal member 1 having offset card-engaging hooks 2 struck therefrom. These hooks extend toward each other and are adapted for fitting in apertures in a card which is adapted to lie-suspended thereon by a slight, flexing movement. The main part 1 of the carrier has a pair of rearwardly struck-out ton ues 3 for a purpose that will later appear. The ends of the main part of the carrier are bowed or curved longitudinally as indicated at 4 for the purpose of retaining them in a tray as showfn in my copending application Serial No. 332,..53, filed June 14, 1929. To the main part of the carrier 1 there is welded or secured a reinforcing member 5, a portion of which is shown in Figure 5. This reinforcing member consists of a metal strip having a curled-up edge as indicated at 6. In assembling the main portion of the carrier with the reinforcing member, the said reinforcing member is applied to the rear upper edge of the main portion of the carrier with its lower edge abutting the struck out tongues 3 which serve the purpose of aligning the reinforcing member 5. The fiat part 7 of the reinforcing member may be welded or secured in any suitable way to the upper rear surface of the main member 1. This reinforcing member will impart sufficient rigidity to the carrier to prevent the same from readily flexing. The rigidity of the holder is especially desirable in an index system in which the cards are adapted to be regrouped or transferred from one tray to another. Further, in regrouping or tansferring the cards the tongues 3 of one carrier will engage the carrier therebelow and prevent the carriers from piling one upon the other.
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the patent granted hereon otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
1. A card carrier comprising a metal strip having forwardly offset card-supporting hooks and rearwardly extending tongues and a reinforcing member secured to the rear surface of said strip with its inner edge abutting said tongues.
52. A card carrier comprising a metal strip having forwardly offset card-supporting hooks. rearwardly extending tongues and curved resilient terminals and a reinforcing member secured to the rear surface of said strip with its inner edge alined by said tongues. I
3. A card carrier comprising a metal strip, having curved resilient terminals extending in a longitudinal direction and forwardly offset card-supporting hooks and means for reinforcing said carrier.
4. A card carrier comprising a metal strip 5 having forwardly oifset card-engaging hooks,
and rearwardly projecting abutments and a reinforcing member secured to the rearsurface of said strip with its inner edge in a1inement with said ahutments.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name at Cambridge, Middlesex County Massachusetts.
GEORGE H. DAWSON.
