This Vinvention relates to clutch devices and the obj ect of the invention is -to provide a devicev for use in connection lwith a window regulator'so arranged as toallow rotation at any time of the crank'for operating the window regulator butpreventing operation of the window regulator by pressure applied to the Window.

In a clutch device, a casing, a shaft rotatably mounted therein, a coiled springpo sitioned within the Vcasing for frictionally engaging the inner walls thereof, said spring having ends extending radially inward, a member secured to the shaft having a pair of lugs extending between the ends of the coiled spring, a second member rotatably mounted relative to the first member and in side by Y side relationship and having a pair of lugs extending upon opposite sides of the spring ends from that of the lugs of the first member, the lugs and spring being so arranged that rotation of the second member in either direction in relation to the first member causes the respective lug thereof to engage a spring end and expand the same to binding lengagement with the inner wall 0f the casing, a gear secured to the said second member, and means whereby rotation of the first member in either direction causes a lug to engage its spring and to contract the spring and thereby free the parts to rotation.
