IMPROVEMENT lN CLCTHES-DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,985, dated December 5, 1876; application filed May 9, 1876.

The plate D is placed on the tenon of a post.
My improvement is found in the construc-- tion of the cast-iron socket A, (it may be of other metal,) in which the end of arm B is hung. The socket has a slot, at, through it from side to side, by which it is hung to the wire (J, attached to the plate D. The slot in the socket is a sort of S shape, and when the arm is let down it hangs from the inner end of this slot; but, when raised, the curve in this slot allows the end a of the arm to pass the bar 4 of the plate, and so soon as it passes this point it reaches the reversed curve in the slot, and the arm is pushed in under the bar till the outer end of the slot hangs on the wire, and the arm is held extended the same as if it hung by a round hole only.
To let down the arm, it is only necessary to slightly elevate it,and then draw it forward until the end 0 passes the bar 0, when the arm will fall.
Thus it will be seen that with the simplest mechanism, and at the lowest expense, I ar: range or construct a very easily adjusted clothes-drier.
I claim- In a clothes -drier, the sockets A, for the arms B, having through them, from side to side, the slot a, by which they are hung to the wire 0, in combination with the plate D, substantially as and tor the purposes specified.
