IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 184,982 dated December 5, 1876 application filed March 13, 1876.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, RUDOLPH J. PosPIsIL, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, which will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the said improvements, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, and in which- Figure 1 is a top or plan view of a curtainfixture embodying my improvements; Fig. 2, a rear elevation thereof, and Fig. 3 a horizontal central section in the plane of the line at a.

My objects are to facilitate the operation of adjusting the fixture to windows and ourtains of difierent width, and to adapt the fixture to use, in connection with difierent means for raising and lowering the curtain.

To these ends my invention consists in the several novel features, respectively, whereby the results above set forth are accomplished, and substantially as hereinafter specified.

In the drawing, A represents a curtaincornice. B is that part of the window-case to which the cornice A is attached or connected. O O are guides or ways attached to the cornice A. D D are sliding blocks or loops, arranged in the guides or ways 0 O. E E are hooks, driven or screwed into the casing, and adapted to enter the loops D D, thus supporting the cornice A.

The parts D D, by being laterally adjustable, may be readily arranged to receive the hooks E E, and the latter, therefore, need not be set with particularity.

F is the curtain-roller, both ends of which are made screw-threaded. G G are hollow pulleys, screw-threaded within, and run upon the ends of the roller F. H H are spindles or arbors projecting from the outer faces of the pulleys G G. I I are the roller hearings or brackets. These bearings are clasped by the parts 0 G, and are laterally adjustable. The under outer edges of the bases of the bearings are beveled, as shown at a, Fig. 3. J J are sliding blocks, clasped by the parts 0 O, and laterally adjustable. K K are set screws passing through the blocks J J, respectively. The upper inner edges of the blocks J J are beveled, as shown in Fig. 2. L L are spiral springs on the spindles H H. M M are guidebooks, fastened to the cornice A, and arranged opposite the pulleys G G. j

The beveled edges of the parts I and J are preferable, but not essential.

It will be perceived that the fixture is readily adjustable to curtains varying from each other in width, and that when the adjustment is made the parts can be locked in position by means of the screws K K.

The springs L L retard the rotation of the roller sufficiently to keep the curtain in any position in which it may be placed, and thus various means may be employed to raise and lower the curtain. When these springs and the guide-hooks M M are employed the means for raising and lowering the curtain may be substantially the same as shown and described in Letters Patent No. 168,921, issued to me October 19, 1875, for the improvements therein set forth. Instead, however, of using one cord wound in opposite ways around the pulleys, and allowed to hang down in a loop across the curtain, as shown in the Letters Patent above referred to, a separate cord may be used in connection with each pulley; or only one cord may be used in the usual manner, and in the latter case the springs L L and hooks M M will not be essential.

Other means of raising and lowering the curtain may also be employed, which will render the said springs and hooks immaterial.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. The combination of the roller F, laterally-adjustable pulleys G G, laterally-adjustable bearings or brackets I 1, guides (l O, sliding blocks J J, and screws K K, substantially as and for the purposes specified.

2. The combination of the roller F, laterally-adjustable pulleys G G, laterally-adjustable hearings or brackets I I, guides O 0, sliding blocks J J, screws K K, and adjustable guide-hooks M, substantially-as and for the purposes specified.
