Inventor v7.17 E lea/ A Home y Patented Mar. 15, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PICK-UP LAP ROLL Application filed February 16, 1931. Serial No. 516,201.
This invention relates to a lap roll for pickers, the general object of the invention being to so form the roll that it will be of light weight and will insure better work, better g laps, and even laps and will not damage the picker or other parts.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts,
to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the improved roll.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view with parts in elevation.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of the other end.
Fig. 4 is an elevation with parts broken away of the central portion of the roll.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view of one of the end members.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view of the other end member.
In these drawings, the numeral 1 indi- 30 cates the central part of the roll which is formed of a piece of tubing of suitable dimensions, and the numerals 2. and 3 indicate the end portions of the roll. Each of these end parts is of tubular construction, and formed with an inner cylindrical part 4 which is adapted to fit in an end of the tube 1. The outer part of each of the end parts 9. and 3 is of reduced diameter as shown at eled as shown at 10.
5, and a tubular flange 6 is formed at the Thus it will be seen that I have provided a lap roll of very light weight, and the parts of which are firmly connected together, and one which will not damage the grooved roller or the picker 'or other part of the device.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction, and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. A lap roll of the class described comprising a central tubular part, and a pair of end parts of tubular construction and having their inner end portions fitted in the ends of the tubular central part, and means for frictionally holding the end part in the cen tral part. 7
2. A lap roll of the class described comprising a central tubular portion, a pair of end portions of tubular construction each having a reduced outer end and a cylindrical inner end, the inner end' fitting snugly in an end of the central tubular part, the cylindrical part having right and left grooves therein, 1 and a flange at the juncture of the cylindrical part with the reduced part for engaging an end of the central tubular part.
3. A lap roll of the class described comprising a central tubular portion, a pair of end portions of tubular construction each having a reduced outer end and a cylindrical inner end, the inner end fitting snugly in an end of the central tubular part, the cylindrical part having right and left grooves therein, a flange at the juncture of the cylindrical part with the reduced part for engaging an end of the central tubular part, one end part having a circular enlargement at its outer end, and the outer end of the other end part being beveled.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
AUGUSTE THEODULE ESCOLAS.
