It is therefore an object of this invention to provide a device which may be associated with the engine and an oil receptacle, wherebytl-le receptacle maybe supported independent oft-he attendant acljacent the en gine duringthe discharge fromjthe recep- 'vide a dispensing device particularly adapted is of universal application for Ithisor other A fu'rther'obj ect is to provide a dispensing device which may be used with any" automobile for filling the crankcase thereof, one which is inexpensiveto make and maintain, and fulfills all requirements of manufacture .andservice; f these and various other objects in I'trated in Figure view, the invention mavconsist of certain novel teatures of construction'and operation,
In the drawings, which illustrate an embodiment of the deviceand wherein like 'reference characters: are used to designatc like partsj v Figure 1 is asectional elevation showing the device "in supported filling relation to an engine blo'ckja'nd the'crankcase inlet thereof V "Figure Qi is atop plan'viewotthe parts illustrate d in Figure 1 pensing 'jlubric'a'ntj from; the receptacle illiis Referring first of all more particularly to the device asifllustrate d in Figures 1 and 2, it has been found that "in substantially all automobiles there are anumber of parts which are common; they, are the tie rod 10' disposed between and connecting the radiator and cowl of the car,'an d,the engineblo'cfk 12, the engine block being provided withla,
'suit'ablecrankcase (i1ot'shown) having an ,oil
filling opening 14 for vsu'pplying oil thereto.
ilhe dispensing device includes a receptamanipulation thereof, ,the receptacle being serted intoan openingll for supplying lu- "bricant thereto; Theflexible hose '24 is in communication witha valvefitting, shown in 1 the nature of an elbow 2'8,having .acyalve seat 30, the flow of liquid through said seat ,ll ary eleva ti nj i i i Figurel ls a fiaginentary elevation of a modifiediorm of actuating device for dishis having a handle 1181thereonior proper iii being controlled by the valve 32. The valve 32 is secured to the lever 34, pivotally mounted as at 36 on the support or standard 38 provided in the receptacle, the end remote from the valve being pivoted as at 40 to the operating rod 42 extending upwardly through suitable guides 44 provided on the inside of the receptacle. The upper end of the rod 42 is threaded as at 46 and extends through a correspondingly threaded actuating nut 48 which is rotatably mounted in the bracket 50 fixed to the receptacle. The nut 48 isprovided with spaced shoulders 52 embracing a portion of the member 50, and an upper thumb screw portion 54, which portion may be rotated for moving thevalve 32 to:
opened or closed position through movement of the rod 42, the nut serving to lock the valve in any desired position as there is no relative movement of translation between the nut and the member 50; The operating means for the valve may be r varied som'ewhat, as illustrated in Figure 4, wherein the upper end of the rod 42 is downwardly notched with a plurality of notches 146, the notched portion of the rod extending through the member '5 0,'said member being provided with an elongated slot 150 "wherey the upper end of the rod 42 may be depressed to open the valve 32 the desired amount, whereupon the valve may be locked inselected open position by booking the selected notch 146 under a portion of the mem- 'ber adjacent the outer end of the slot 150.
The receptacle may be provided with a suitable hook member 56 into which thefiexible hose 24'may be hooked when the receptable is in operative position, the valve 32 being closed. The receptacle is provided with a vertically disposed supportin member shown as a strip of metal 58 having a plurality of upwardly extending slots 60 disosed therein at suitable intervals, extending the entire depth of the receptacle.
In order then to supportthe receptacle in operative position wherein it is possible. to
. open the valve 32 to dispense liquid from the into openin receptacle through the hose 24, nozzle 26 say 14, a bracket device 62 is probracket is provided with an up- 'age the vided, said per hook portion 64 adapted to en tie rod 10, the bracket 62 being, deflected as at'66 to provide a downwardly extending portion 68 to engage a portion of the engine block 12, said portion 68 being provided with spaced aperturesalong the length thereof,
The member 62 is provided with a pedestal member or bracket 70 pivoted as at 7 2 to the brace member 74 which is'provided with an enlarged end portion 76 having spaced headed pins 78 thereon adapted to be engaged in selected slots 60 in themember 58. The brace member 74 is provided with a brace member 80 pivoted thereto as at 82, the end of said brace member being reduced to the proper sized portion 84 for engagement in selected slotted apertures in the member 68 whereby a triangular brace member is formed supported at a plurality of points, namely, on the tie rod and engine block, for supporting the receptacle 16, it being understood that the slots 60 may be provided with an upwardly extending enlarged portion 86 whereby the brace member 74 is locked in supporting position to the receptacle by the weight of said receptacle.
' The brace member 62 may be varied somewhat, as shown in Figure 3 at 162, the brace member being provided with the hook portion 164 for engaging the tie rod 10, said brace; member being supported at another point on the engine block 12. The brace memberfil62 is provided with a pedestal 170 -pivoted at 172 to the brace member 174, which member is provided with an enlarged head portion176 having headed pins 178 for engaging in slots 600i the member 58 provided on the receptacle 16. The member 174 is notched as at188 for the selected reception of the headed'pins 190 and 192 provided on the oflsethead portion'194 of the brace member.180, said member being pivoted as at 196 to the pedestal198 provided on the brace member 162.
lVhen either of the brackets are not in,
. use, theymay be folded so that they are readierative position. and the valve opened, after "which the attendant may go about other an ties, such as tending other. automobiles or attending to the gas, water or tires of the machine which is being su plied with lubricant.
It is, of course, to e understood that I;
do not wish to be limited by the exactembodiment of the device shown, which is merely by way of illustration and not limitation, as various and other. forms of the device will of course be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the ini I vention or the scope of the claims.
I claim:
