DOUBLE ROLL CRUSHER Filed Aug. l5, 1929 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 W 5 A ffo/f/vfn Patented Mar. 1, 1932 UNITED STATES ROBERT H. BEAUMONT, or Bannon., Pianlvsvnvmxrrnl DOUBLE ROLL CIRUSHER.`
Application filed August 15,1929. Serial No. 386,020.V
The principal objects of the present invention are, first, to increase the capacity of double roll Crushers; second, to increase the effective crushing area. of the surface of the rolls of a double roll Crusher; and third, to prolong the crushing action of the rolls of a double roll Crusher on the outlet or discharge side of the bight or minimum distance between the surfaces of the rolls.
To these and other ends hereinafter set forth the invention, generally stated, comprises a double roll Crusher provided in the outlet space between its crushing rolls with an imperforate breaker plate, therebeing provided between the crushing surfaces of the plate and the crushing surfaces of the rolls two converging spaces of which the boundary at the breaker plate is concave with a curvature eccentric to the axes of the rolls; and the invention further comprises the provision upon the surfaces of the rolls of outwardly beveled rings having the peak edges thereof notched, the rings on the rolls being arranged in staggered relation thereby prod viding a crushing space longer than the lengths of the rolls themselves; and the provision on the concave faces of the breaker plate of beveled ribs having the peak edges thereof notched, said ribs arranged between the rings on the rolls, and the peaks of the ribs being progressively higher above the valleys between them to overlap the rings at the lower edges of the breaker plate.
The invention also comprises the improvements to be presently described and finally claimed.
In the following description reference will be made to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof and in which Figure 1 is a side view partly in section and with parts broken away illustrative of a machine embodying features of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a top or plan view drawn to a much enlarged scale and somewhat diagrammatically and illustrating the breaker plate.
Fig. 3 is a view drawn to an enlarged scale and in section and illustrating features of construction.
Fig. 4 isa transverse sectional view taken on the line 4 4 ofFig. 3, and Y Fig. 5 is a view taken on the line 5 5 of Fig.3. f 1 Referring tothe drawings 1 is an imperforate breaker plate of generally wedge shape section. It is arranged in the outlet space between the crushing rolls 2 and 3. There are provided between the crushing surfaces of the plate and the crushing surfacesv of the rolls two converging spaces 4 and 5 of which the boundary at the breaker plate is concave with a curvature eccentric to the aXes of the rolls. The surfaces of the rolls are provided with outwardly beveled ribs or rings 6 each having the peak edge thereof notched as at 7, and the rings on the rolls are arranged in staggered relation thereby providing a crushing space longer than the lengths of the rolls 6. This construction also opposes endwise movement of articles being crushed. Diagrammatically an article is indicated at a in Fig. 4, and an inspection of that figure is illustrative of the description last given. The concave faces of the breaker plate are provided with beveled ribs 8 having the peak edges thereof notched. The ribs 8 are arranged between the rings or ribs on the rolls and the peaks of the ribs are progressively higher above the valleys between them, so that the rings and ribs overlap at the lower port-ions of the breaker plate. The slanting faces 9 of the ribs 6 of the rolls and the slanting faces l() of the projections 8 of the plate l may well be roughened although for the sake of clearness it is not attempted in the drawings to illustrate that provision.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art to which ythe invention relates that modifications may be made in details of construction and arrangement and matters of mere form without departing from the spirit of the invention which is not limited to such matters or otherwise than theprior art and the appended claims may require.
I claim:
l. A double roll crusher having the surfaces lof its rolls spaced apart and provided in the outlet space between its rolls with a breaker plate, the surfaces of the rolls provided with outwardly beveled rings having the peak edges thereof notched, the rings on the rolls arranged in staggered relation, the breaker plate having concave faces provided with ribs having the peak edges thereof notched, said ribs being arranged between the rings onthe rolls, andthe peaks of the ribs being; progressively higher above the valleys between them to overlap the rings at the lower edges of the breaker plate.
2. A double roll'c-rusherhaving: the'sufr# Y aces of its rolls spaced apart and provided in the outlet space between its rollswith a` breaker plate7 the surfaces ofthe rolls provided with outwardly beveled rings, the'V rings onthevrolls arrangedv in staggered relation, the breaker plate having-concave .faces provided-` iwith'yribs, said'k ribs 'being arranged between the rings on the rolls, and the peaks of the ribskl being progressively higher above thevalleys-between= them' to' overlap the rings Y atvthe lower-:edgesfo the breakerplate.
