IMPROVEMENT IN SHlRT-BOSOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,770, dated November 28, 1876; application filed October 24, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JosEPH FISHER, of Pottsville, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Non-Greasing Shirt-Bosoms, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to provide a firm bosom for a shirt, and to preserve the same from'bein g broken, creased, or rumpled by use by separating a portion of the bosom from the shirt, as shown in the accompanying drawing.
My improvement is shown in detail in the drawing.
G is the front of a shirt. Ais the shirtbosom, having the lower portion of it, b, de-
tached from the shirt below the points 0 c. F
is an opening or slot in the shirt G, underneath the bosom A b. O is a slot or pocket in the shirt G, in which part of the detached portion of the bosom b is fitted, and serves as a guide or holder for it, so that it will not turn or curl up. D D-are two flaps fastened together in the middle, underneath the detached part of the bosom.
The shirtbosom A b is made of any suitable pattern, with the lower part, b, detached from the shirt G at c c. The slot or opening F is intended to give flexibility and destroy the rigidity of the shirt G. The flaps D D are for the purpose of allowing the bosom to I be ironed and polished without being creased,
and they are not to be stiffened any more than the shirt G.
The object of the slot or pocket 0 is to prevent the detached part of the bosom b from being broken or creased, and to serve as a guide for it to slide in.
A person wearing an ordinary shirt will crease or break the 'stiflness of the bosom by bending the, body, while a bosom made as above will allow full and free motion of the body in any direction without creasing or breaking it in the least.
It is a well-known fact that a creased or broken bosom will cause afullness of the shirt at the neck or collar-band. This the improvement described effectually obviates.
It will readily be seen that these shirtbosoms can be made of any material used in v
