Another objectis'to prov de such acutofi inwhich all heavy rotating parts are inherently balanced, thus'eliminating vibration and the necessity for extensive counterbalancing. For the purpose of driving the disks 18 and 20, the shaft 17 is provided with a gear 35 meshing with a gear 36 on vertical shaft 37 supported-in a housing 38 fixed at 39 to the bearingpedestal 12. The shaft 37 is also supported at its lower end by a bearing 40.

A suitable grinding disk 58isprovided in the path of the edge of theknife 25. This disk rotates on a shaft 59 adjustable on its 7 support 61 by a thumb screw 63 and is driven by the belt 69.
w It will be seen from the foregoing that a cutoff has been provided in which the cutofi blade is perpendicular to the rod and in which its edge follows the movement of the rodduring cutting, all without any reciprocating parts in 'the cutoff drive; and that in this cutoff the main driving parts are two smoothly rotating disks which are inherently balanced and vibrationless. In view of the foregoing further description of the operation ofthe improved cutoff is deemed unnecessary and is omitted in the interest of brevity.
