Serial INo. 536,742.
This invention relates to changeable ex hibitors, having hinged leaves to receive the matter -to be exhibited, which may be interchangeable slips, indexes,- or other cards. In the example shown, the exhibitor is rotatable, but the invention is not necessarily limited in this respect.
The inventionI will best be understood by reference to the following description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings of one specific embodiment thereof,`
whileits scope will be pointed out more particularly in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Fi 1 is a plan of an' exhibitor exemplify` ing t e invention; A
Fig. 2 is a sectional view onl line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale of a portion of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line lf-4 of Fig. 3; and
Fig 5 is a sectional view online 5 5 of` Fi 3. Feierring to the drawings, and to the em bodiment of the inventief which is illustrated therein, there is shown an exhibitor comprisin a series of leaves 10, each of which, as erein shown (see Fig. 3) is generally rectangular, and is ivotall mounted on one cr more, herein two in e-pieces 11, a"'s by providing a pintle `in the orm of a wire 12 (see Fig. 5), which is received in the fold of a metallic strip or' bar 13, whosev sides embrace the adjacent marginal portion of the leaf. This strip is notched, or cut away as at 14, to receive the hinge'pieces 11, each of which is conveniently in the form of a piece of sheet metal folded about the pintle (see Fig.
4), and having its sides 15 brought together' face to face.
Each hinge-piece is received ini a slot 1 6,
presented by av support, herein comprising a plate 17 which in the case of a rotary exhibi:
tor as herein shown, is bent into cylindrical form. Thus, each plate is of the nature of a drum, provided with a large number of equally spaced slots 16 for corresponding hingepieces. Each hinge-piece has appropriate means interlocking with its support, and removable from such interlocln'ng relationship by moving the hinge-piece, first lengthwise of the slot (herein upwardly), and then outwardly therefrom, this being conveniently accomplished in the present example by lforming the hinge piece to present a head 18 and a neck 19 connecting the head to the body of the hinge piece, thus providing abutments 20 on the inner face of the supporting plate `17, and abutments 21 on Vthe outer face of the plate. The lower edge ofthe neck 19 normally rests at the lower end of the slot 16, and the vertical extent of the slot is such that it will accommodate the head 18,--that is to say, when the hinge-piece is lifted the proper distance, the head'may be withdrawn outwardly from the slot. In other words, each hinge-piece normally is interlocked with the support, and is 'retained in such interlocking relationship' by gravity, but may be quiekl and conveniently removed and replaced', thereby enabling the 'panels to be interchanged at will.
One important feature of this hinge mounting of the leaves is that the pintles may be very small in diameter, the hinge pieces quite thin, and the slots rather closely spaced, the entire assembly being such that the leaves may be opened up (see the lower portion of Fig. 1) very widely, much more so than is usual withexhibitors of this class.
As herein shown, the plates 17, bent into the form of cylindrical or ring-like supports, are conveniently mounted on upper and lower circular plates or heads 22, connected to each other and spaced apart-by a set of rods 23 and a central tubular spacer 24, which is disposed about a vertical shaft 25, there being usual upper and lower bearings 26 and 27, to support the .rotating structure on and about the shaft.
Having thus described one 'embodiment of the invention, but without limiting ourselves theretowhat We claim and desire by Letters Patents to secure is:
1. In a changeable exhibitor, the combination of a support provided with a laterally disposed, vertical slot, a. hinge-piece removably'received in said slot, a leaf and a pintle hin edly to said hinge-piece connecting said lea .to said hingeiece.
2. In a changeab e exhibitor, the combination of a support provided with a -series of parallel, vertical slots, a series of hingepieces removably received in said slots, respectively, a series of leaves, and a pintle hingedly connecting said leaves to said hingepieces, respectively.. Y
3. In a changeable exhibitor, the combination of a support provided with upper and 'j lower vertical slots,'separa te upper and lower hinge-pieces received in said upper and lower slots, respectively, and simultaneously removable therefrom by movement in their own 1 plane a rigid leaf, and a pintle hingedly 'connecting said leaf to said hinge-pieces.
4. In a changeable exhibitor, the combination of a support provided with upper and lower-series of vertical slots, each having a slot being such that when said hin -piece is' moved upwardly a predetermine distance, said head can be withdrawn horizontally through said slot, and a leaffhinged to said hinge-piece.
9. In a changeable exhibitor, the combina-4 tion cfa support` having opposite faces and upper and lower vertical slots extending from one `face to the other, upper and lowerV hinge-pieces associated with said slots, respectively, eac hin e-piece comprising a body having a shoul er on one face, a neck 'A extending through the associated slot and a head on the other face, said shoulder and head normally preventing horizontal movement of such hinge-piecein such slot, the vertical extent of each slot being such that when said hinge-pieces are moved upwardly a predetermined distance, said heads can be withdrawn horizontally through saidslots,
respectively, and a leaihinged to said hingepieces. In testimony whereof, we have signed ou names to this specification.

6. In a'changea le exhibitor, the. combination of a support having upper and lower slots, upper and lower hinge-pieces received lnvsaid upper and lower slots, respectively,
and having-means interlocking with said support and removable from such interlocking relationship by moving said hinge-pieces first 'upwardly in said slots and then outwardly therefrom,` and a leahinged to said upper and lower hinge-pieces.
7. In a changeable exhibitor, the combina'- I tion of a support having opposite faces and a slot from one face to the' other, a hingepiece extending'from one face of said supsaid support,'said hingeiece having abut,-
ments cooperating with said faces, respectively, normally to prevent withdrawal of said hinge-piece from saidA slot, said hinge-piece being` movable in said slot to another .posi-A tion in which it may be withdrawn from said lslot, and a leaf hinged to said hinge-piece;
8. In a changeable exhibitor, the combination of a support comprising' a wallA having a vertical slot therethrough a hinge-piece comprising a body having a shoulder en one y side of sald wall,a neckextendingl through said slot, and a head on the other side of said wall, said shoulder and headnormall preventing horizontal movement lof said4 ingepiece in said slot, the vertical extent of said port, through said slot to tlfe other face of.
