Description

Feb. 16, 1932. MOSKOW CUTTING TOOL FOR SHOE NAILS Filed March 11, 1929 Patented Fe la. 16, 1932 IsanoR-n MOSKOW, or sr. Louis, mesons;
CUTTING 'rooL roa snon NAILS Application filed March 11,
This invention relates to an improvement in cutting tools and particularly for cutting off the protruding ends of shoe nails and in which the tool is inserted inside of a shoe and the nail projecting ends are clipped off.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensively constructed cutting tool.
Another object of the invention is in providing the cutting tool with a pair of rear wardly disposed cutting edges.
A further objectof the invention is in providing the cutting tool in two parts and in which a single pivot isused for connecting the parts together. i
Other and further objects will appear, in the specification and be specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, exe1n-- plifyin the invention, and in which V Figure 1 is a plan view of this improved cutting tool.
Figure 2 is a side elevation partly in section of Fig. 1, taken approximately on line II II of Fig. 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged transverse vertical section taken approximately on the line III" III of Fig. 1.
Figure 4: is an enlarged transverse vertical section taken approximately on the line IV- IV of Fig. 1.
Figure 5 is an enlarged transverse section taken approximately on the line VV of Fig. 1.
WVith reference to the accompanying drawings, l and 2 designate co-operating handles, the handle 1 having a aw 3 whereas the handle 2 is provided with a aw 1, each of said jaws being provided with a series of radially projecting portions, the jaw 3 having the projecting portions 5, whereas the jaw 4 is provided with the projecting portions 6, each projecting portion 5 of the jaw 8 being formed with a cutting edge 7 whereas each projecting portion 6 of the jaw 4; is formed with a cutting edge 8.
Each of the jaws 3 and i is provided with a vertically disposed opening 11, said openings when the jaws are mounted together as shown in the several figures of the drawings,
tees. Serial no. 246,111.
being in vertical alinement and in which the portion 9 of the jaw 3 from which the projections 5 extend is mounted above the portion 10 of the aw 4, portions of the projections 5 sidelapping the portion 10 of the jaw 4-, whereas portions of the projections 6 sidelap the part or portion 9 of the jaw 3.
After the jaws have been mounted together, av pin 12 is mounted in the alining openings 11 for securing the jaws 3 and 4 together and a leaf spring 13 is mounted on proved cutting tool the forward pair of cutting edges as designated at A will engage the most forwardly projecting nail within a shoe, whereas the sidewise disposed cutting edges designatedat B will engage sidewise disposed projecting nails of the shoe. By reason of there being so many makes of shoes of different curvatures, it is found that certain projecting nails can be better engaged by rearwardly disposed cutting edges such as the opposing pair shown at 18 and 19 in Figs. 1 and 5, the cutting edge 18 being formed on the inner surface of the handle 1 whereas the cutting edge 19 is formed on the inner surface of the handle 2, and when a projecting nail has been engaged between said cutting edges 18and 19, squeezing together the handles 1 and 2 will clip the projecting end of the nail.
lVhat I claim is 1. A two-part cutting tool comprising a pair of handles each having a jaw formed at one end and a series of cutting edges radially extending from each jaw, said cutting edges being disposed in a manner wherein they will sidelap portions of respective jaws when said jaws are mounted together and pivot means forsaid jaws, and a pair of cutting edges formed betwen the handles adjacent; said aws.
J 2. A two-part cutting tool comprising a pair of handles each having a jaw at one end, a series of radially projecting portions eX- tending from each jaw each having a cutting edge, the projecting portions of the upper jaw depending downwardly in sidel-apping relation to the lower jaw, the projecting portions of the lower jaw extending upwardly in sidewise relation to the upper jaw, and an opposing cutting edge on each handle ad j acent said jaws.
