Description

WRIGHT;
POLISHING-PACKAGES. No.18L455. Patented Nov.14,18-'76.

FRANCIS WRIGHT, WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO GEORGE W. BALLOGH, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN POLISHING-PACKAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,455, dated November 14, 1876 application filed October 25, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be .it known that I, FRANCIS WRIGHT, of Washington city, in the county of Washington and District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Polishing Compounds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make anduse the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure I is a perspective view of a cartridge containing the polishing material. Fig. II is a sectional view of same.
A is the cartridge-shell; B, the polishing material; 0, the clay or other suitable material'in the cartridge to form a handle.
The division of the cartridge above the dotted line as w is filled with clay or other suitable material, and forms a handle to grasp the cartridge.
This invention relates to that class of compounds used to polish iron, steel, copper, brass, silver, cutlery, dental instruments, and all metals having a surface designed to be kept in a burnished condition. It consists in a composition formed by mixing any of the well-known polishing materials, such as Bristol brick, emcry, Tripoli, sapolio, rotten-stone, whiting, and other kindred substances, with a solution of an oil-soap, soda, or Sal-soda, to give the compound a detersive character, for the purpose of removing grease or stains from metals.
To prepare the polish, take a quantity of oil-soap of any kind, of good quality, and dissolve the same in hot water, and add one or The cartridge-shell is made of pasteboard,
or other suitable material, soft enough to wear away with the polishing material and assist in the polishing, of the size desired, and in a form similar to that ofsky-rockets. The cartridge is, made of such thickness and consistency as to wear away by use.
The method of using is as follows: Wet the end of the cartridge containing the polishing material, and rub it over the surface to be polished. The cartrigde wears away, and assists at the sammroducing the desired result.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The polishing compound formed of the cartridge-shell A, materials B and 0, as and for the purpose described and shown.
2. A new article of manufacture, a polishing-package consisting of the shell A, the polishing material B, and the stopper O, substantially as and for the purpose described.
Intestimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANCIS WRIGHT. Witnesses J OHN W. FRAZEE, J. '1. SMITH.
