Be it known that I, MARK M GLENN, of Aurora, in the county-of Kane and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compounds for Cleaning Polished Metals, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
The design of my invention is to enable polished-metal surfaces to be easily and quickly cleaned without injuring the same, either by abrasive or corrosive action; and it consists in the hereinafter-described compound, substantially as and for the purpose specilied.
My compound consists of five parts of spirits of ammonia, one part of lye, one part of spirits of turpentine, two parts of sweet or lard oil, one part of hard soap, two parts of Tripoli or other earthy or silicious substance, and ten parts of rain-water. These articles are thoroughly united by stirring or shaking, and the mixture allowed to stand for twentyfour hours; after which it is applied with a cloth to the surface to be cleaned, and thorcumstances or the nature of the work to be I done may render desirable.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention, what I claim as new 1s The hereinbefore-described compound, composed of the ingredients and in the manner substantially as and for the purpose specified. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of J one, 1873.
