COMPOUND FOR CLEANING PAlNT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,351, dated May 2'7, 1884.
Application filed November 7, 1883. (No specimens.)
and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compounds for Cleaning Paint; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a novel compound or preparation for the removal of stains, dirt, 850., accumulating on the painted surfaces of wood, iron, and the ceilings, fronts, andwalls of buildings, 850., whereby the said surfaces can be thoroughly and expeditiously cleaned, and at a great saving of time and labor, besides reducing cost of material.
The compound or preparation consists of the following ingredients, compounded in about the following proportions, to wit: one ounce of lime; three (3) ounces of borax; ten (10) pounds Sal-soda; three (3) pounds sapolio; three (3) pounds Georgia clay; three (3) pounds whiting; two (2) ounces hartshorn or ammonia; one (1) ounce oil of vitriol, dissolved in four (4) gallons of water. These materials,
being combined, form a fluid mixture or compound which is applied to the painted surface by means of a brush or other suitable device.
My compound can also be used in washing woolen or cotton fabrics.
The Georgia clay herein referred to is a soft stone, and is a well-known article of commerce in the State of Georgia, where it is obtained.
I am aware that several ingredients of my compound have been used before, both separately and in combination with other ingredients; but I am not aware that all of the ingredients of my composition have ever been combined together previous to my invention.
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent A compound for cleaning painted surfaces of wood, iron, 850., consisting of lime, borax, sal-soda, sapolio, Georgia clay, whiting, ammonia, oil of vitriol, and water, substantially in and about the proportions herein described.
