Description

GARBAGE CAN HOLDER Filed May 28, 1950 l atented Feb. 2, 1932 TTES- GARBAGE can HOLDER Application filed. May 28,
It is well known that cats and other marauding animals have the habit of extracting matter from garbage cans and in their efforts to obtain food from such cans they frequently upset the same and scatter the contents to the great annoyance of householders. It is the object of the present invention to provide a support for a garbage can which will firmly support the can and which may be secured upon the side of a building or upon a fence or other fixed support above the ground and frustrate the efforts of the animals to extract the contents. This object is attained in such a devi e as is illustrated in the accom panying drawings, and the invention resides in certain novel features which will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through a garbage can support embodying the invention, the position of the can being indicated by dotted lines,
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the support, and
Fig. 3 is a detail section.
In the accompanying drawings, the reference numeral 1 indicates a portion of a fixed support, such as the side of a building. Secured upon the fixed support are brackets each consisting of a vertical arm 3 bolted or otherwise rigidly secured to the. fixed support and an upper horizontal arm 4: projecting outwardly from the upper end of the vertical arm. A diagonal brace 5 is secured at its lower end to the lower end of the arm 3 and to the fixed support and at its upper end to the extremity of the respective arm 4 so that the brackets are very thoroughly braced and reinforced and will firmly support the garbage can. At the outer end of each arm l and adjacent the inner end thereof are secured posts 6 each having its lower end turned inwardly to define a foot 7 resting upon the respective arm 4- and secured in place by the same bolt 8 which secures the outer end of the arm and the brace. Against the inner sides of the several'posts 6 at the upper end of the same is disposed an annulus 9 which is of suificient diameter to encircle a can or other cylindrical container, as will be understood upon reference to the dotted lines in Fig. 1.
1930. Serial No. 456,672.
This annulus is bolted or riveted to the upper ends of the several posts and its ends are overlapped at oneof the posts and secured thereto, as shown at 10.
The device is intended to be secured upon a post or the side of a building at such a height above the ground that it will impose no burden upon the person having to lift the container and place it upon the support While at the same time it will be suiiiciently high to prevent access thereto by nocturnal animals. The can will. fit within the annulus 9 and rest upon the feet 7 or the arms l and will thereby be very firmly supported. The cover of the container may be connected by a chain or similar device to the fixed support so that when the contents are to be collected the cover will not be lost.
The device is exceedingly simple in construction and may be produced and installed at a very low cost.
Having thus described the invention, I claim:
A support for garbage cans and the like comprising a pair of brackets each consisting of a vertical arm to be rigidly secured to a support, a horizontal arm projecting from the upper end of the vertical arm, and a brace extending between the lower end of the vertical arm and the outer end of the horizontal arm, the horizontal. arms being parallel, posts rising from the horizontal arms adjacent inner and outer ends thereof and having inwardly extending feet at their lower ends resting upon the arms, fasteners passed through the feet and arms to secure the posts in place, a ring of less depth than the height of the posts disposed above said brackets with upper ends of the posts overlapping the outer face of the ring and fastoners passed through the posts and ring, the feet being disposed diagonally upon the upper arms to cause the posts to have fiat contactin engagement with the ring.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
