Description

United States Patent TRASH CAN HOLDER Joe C. Williams, Suttle & Kessler, P.0. Box 230,
, Uvalde, Tex.
Filed Jan. 22, 1958, Ser. No. 710,571
2 Claims. (Cl. 211--71) This invention relates to a new and improved trash can holder or the like and has particular reference to such a device wherein the can is supported above the ground whereby the can becomes spill proof and cannot be.
knocked over by dogs or other small animals.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type set forth which is relatively simple and economical in construction and installation.
Another object is to provide a device of the type set forth which is capable of spinningor turning on its support.
Another object is to provide a device of the type set forth which may be mounted on an ordinary pipe and does not require any specially formed supports.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, and it will be understood that changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of parts shown and described without departing from the scope of the invention, as the preferred form has been given by way of illustration only.
Referring to the drawing:
Fig. l is a side view, partially in section, of a device embodying the invention; and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout, the device shown embodying the invention includes a steel pipe or the like which is fastened into the ground and may consist of ordinary pipe chosen for its diameter.
The supporting member designated generally, at 11 consists of a tubular body portion 12 of a diameter whereby it may be positioned in telescoping relation on the pipe 10 and is free to rotate thereon.
Adjacent the upper end of the tubular body portion 12 are provided the hook members 13 which are positioned on opposite sides of body portion 12 and are retained in such position by bolt or the like 14, which extends through aligned openings in body portion 12 and also serves as a limiting stop for the upper end of pipe 10 in body 12.
These hooks 13 are for the purpose of supporting the handles 15 of the trash cans or the like 16, as shown in Fig. 1.
On opposite sides of body portion 12 at points spaced from the hooks 13 are provided the diverging or arcuate preformed supports 17, one of which is provided for each of hooks 13 and which are positioned in aligned relation with their respective books.
free
The arcuate members 17 are secured on body portion ings in the respective supports 17 on either side of body portion 12, as shown in Fig. 2 whereby the'supports 17 are secured in position on body portion 12 and serve to prevent swinging of trash can 16, as shown in'Fig. 1.
The supports 17 may be arcaute or other preformed shape, but diverge outwardly on opposite sides of body portion 12 and are preferably of such length as to prevent swinging of trash can 16 when the handles 15 of the can are hookedover the hooks 13. Thislarrangement allows rotating or turning movement of the supporting member or portion 12 on the pipe or support 10.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided new and improved means for obtaining all of the objects and advantages of the invention.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character described, a body member having an open end and a hollow portion for receiving a support whereby said member may be mounted on said support, a plurality of hook members secured to said body member adjacent the upper end thereof, fastening means extending through said body member adjacent said hook members for securing said hook members in position on said body member, said hook members being provided for receiving a handle of a container for thereby supporting the container suspended on one of said hook members, said fastening means also serving as a stop for the support within said hollow portion of said member and a plurality of arcuate support members positioned in opposed relation on opposite sides of said body member with each of said support members in line with a respective hook member and fastening members connecting said arcuate support members for retaining said arcuate support members in position on said body mem-- ber, said fastening members extending on opposite sides ofsaid body member.
2. In a device'of the character described, a tubular body member, a pair of hook members in diametrically opposed position on said body member adjacent the upper end of said body member, a bolt extending through said body member and securing said hook members thereon, said hook members being provided for receiving a handle of a container for thereby supporting the container suspended on one of said hook members, said bolt also serving as a stop'for a support in telescoping relation with said body member whereby said body member may be rotated on said support, a pair of arcuate supports positioned in opposed diverging relation on opposite sides of said support member at points spaced from said hook members, one of said support members being provided for each of said hook members and bolts connecting said support members, said bolts extending exteriorly of said body member.
