Description
Patented Jan. 26, 1932 UNETED STATES P TE T QFFIQE AGNES wmrnnisorroivr, or NEW BEDFORD, vmssaonusn'rrs "smmnnna smear Application filed Maren s, 1930. Serial No. 433,538.
This invention relates tonew and useful improvements in a shoulder. strap. p
The invention has for an object theprovision of a device of the class mentioned which is of simple durable constFaction dependable in use ano efficient in action and which-can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost. 1
The invention proposes a short horizontal back strap portion for attachment along the back top edge of a chemise or other ladys garment and integral with a pair of shoulder strap portions for extending over ones shoulder, the free ends of the shoulder straps being for attachment to the front edge of. said garment, the unctions of said back strap portion with said shoulder strap portion being folded and secured together so that the shoulder strap portions are directed at obtuse anto said back strap portion and a reinforcin g strap attached on each shoulder strap portion at a point a short distance from the back strap portion and angularly directed towards the back top edge of the garment for attachment. v
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which thevarious novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth. I
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a chemise with the straps attached.
Fig. 2 is a developed view of the shoulder straps, per se.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary detailed View of a portion of Fig. 2.
i is an enlarged fragmentary detailed view of a portion of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 4, but showing the strap partially open before the application of stitches to hold the parts together.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary View similar. to Fig. 4, but illustrating a' modified form of the device. p V 5 Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a portion of Fig. 6. V
clude' the formation.
Fig. 8 is an enlarged detailed plan View of Fig. 7." i i y I The shoulder straps consist of a short horizontal back strap portion 10 for attachment alonx the backtop edgeof a chemise or other ladys garment and integral with a pair of shoulder strap portions 11 for extending over one s shoulders, the free ends 12 of said shoulder straps being'for attachment to the front edge of said garment, the junctions 13 of said back strap portion 10 with said shoulder strap portions 11 being folded and secured together so that the shoulder strap portions are directed at obtuse angles to theback strap portion 10, and a reinforcing strap 14 attached on eachshoulder strap 11 at a point 15 a short distance from the back strap portion 10 andangularly directed towards the back top edge of the garment for attachment.
In Fig. l, a chemise l6'has been illustrated in which the front is indicated by reference numeral 17 and the rear by numeral 18. This chemise has a back top edge 19 and a front top edge 20.' The back strap portion 10 shown attached along the back top edge 19 and-the reinforcing straps 1d are shown also attached to this edge. The free ends 12 of the shoulder strap portions are shown attached to the front top; edge 20 of the chemise. Preferably, the back strap portion 10 should be abouttwo inches long, The various attaching is accomplished with stitches.
' The folds at the junctions 13 consist of an angular bottom fold 21 connecting the back strap portion 10 with a small triangular lille portion 22 and an angular top fold 23 con 'necting the filler portion 22 and the shoulder strap portion 11. 'This is clearly shown in Fig. 5. Stitches 24L are'arranged upon the junction to hold the parts together and con- The reinforcing straps 1 1 are connected with the shoulder strap portions 11 by stitches 25. In Fig. 2 dot and dash lines 26 indicate a fragmentary portion of the chemise l In the modified .form of the device illustrated in Figs. 6, 7 and '8, an adjustable means ghas been illustratedfor holding the folded condition of the junctions 18 between the back strap portion 1Q and the shoulder strap portions 11 so that the size of the obtuse angle, before referred to, may be varied. This means consists of a plate 27 attached upon the back strap portion 10 and formed with an apex portion 28. The attaching of the plate 27 on the back strap is accomplished by stitches 29 engaged thru apertures 30 formed in the plate.
The apex portion 28 has a bottom inclined side 31 adapted for engaging along the fold 21 and determining the shape and position of this fold. A block 32 is attached upon the front face of the plate 27 and has an arcuate side 33 and an aperture 34 extending from this arcuate side completely thru the block. A second apex member 35 is slightly spaced from the apex member 28 and is formed with an arcuate side 36 engaging against the arouate side 33 of the block.
The apex member 35 is provided with stud 37 which extends thru the aperture A nut 38 threadedly engages on the stud for holding the apex member 35 in various adjusted positions. Dot and dash lines 39 indicate another position of the member. The apex member 35 is formed with a top edge tO adapted to engage in the fold shown in Fig. 5 for determining the angular position of this fold. It will be seen that in adjusted positions of the apex member, the angular relation of the shoulder strap portion to the back strap portion will be adjusted. The filler portion 22 engages in the space between the apex members 28 and 35.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modilications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United l tates Letters Patent is:
1. A shoulder strap for a chemise or other ladys garment, comprising a short horizontal back strap portion for attachment along the back top edge of a chemise or other ladys garment and integral with a pair of shoulder strap portions for extending over ones shoulder, the free ends of said shoulder strap portion being for attachment to the front edge of said garment, the junctions of said back strap portion with said shoulder strap portions being folded and secured together so that the shoulder strap portions are direct ed at obtuse angles to said back strap portion, a reinforcing strap attached on each shoulder strap portion at a point a short distance from the back strap portion and angularly directed towards the back top edge of the garment for attachment, and adjustable means for holding the folded condition at the junctions of said back strap portion with the shoulder strap portions so that the size of said obtuse angle may be varied,
2. A shoulder strap for a chemise or other ladys garment, comprising a short horizontal back strap portion for attachment along the back top edge of a chemise or other ladys garment and integral with a pair of shoulder strap portions for extending over ones shoulder, the free ends of said shoulder strap portion being for attachment to the front edge of said garment, the junctions of said back strap portion with said shoulder strap portions being folded and secured together so that the shoulder strap portions are directed at obtuse angles to said back strap portion, a reinforcing strap attached on each shoulder strap portion at a point a short distance from the back strap portion and angularly directed towards the back top edge of the garment for attachment, and adjustable means for holding the folded condition at the junctions of said back strap portion with the shoulder strap portions so that the size of said obtuse angle may be varied, comprising a plate with an apex portion attached upon the back strap portion and supporting a second apex member for engaging against and holding the folds.
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
