Description

H; OBER G. TRANSFORMABLE FRAMES FOR RUCKI-NG CHAIRS. No 184,260. Paiented Nov.14, 1876.
'NITED STATES PATENT OFFIcn HANS OBERG, OF DES MOINES, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRANSFORMABLE FRAMES FOR ROCKING-CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 184,260, dated November 14, 1876; application filed June 2, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HANS OBERG, of the city of Des Moines, State of Iowa, have invented a Transformable Frame, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in a transformable frame designed to be used as a rocking chair, rocking-lounge, rigid lounge, and bedstead.
The frame consists of the rockers A A, bars B B, arms 0 (J, the square frame H H, the support J, and braces D D, E E, F F, and G G G G, combined and arranged as shown in the perspective view, Figure 1, of the accompanying drawings.
The arms are pivoted to the bars at K K by the bolts, andv the bars are pivoted to the rockers at I I by bolts. The lower ends of the arms rest in the notches of a ratchet formed in or upon the rockers atL L, and designated by a b c d e in Fig. l. The frame H H is hinged to the bars'at M M in such manner that they may be folded under the bars, as shown in Fig. 2. The support J is hinged to the frame H H atXX in such manner that it may be folded back upon the top of H H. The braces F F are pivoted to the inside of H H at r r, so that they may be swung down and form upright supports from the floor to the frame H H. The braces D D are pivoted to the arms atff, and may be used to support the arms when the frame is used as a bedstead, by placing the lower ends of the braces respectively upon the hind ends of the rockers. The braces G G G G are pivoted to the inside of the rockers, as represented in Fig. 1, and are used to secure and steady the frame when used as a rigid lounge or as a bedstead.
The frame, as represented in Fig. 1, with thelower ends of the arms in the notches d d of the ratchet, and the braces E E resting on the ends of rockers, constitutes a rocking lounge.
By lowering the braces G and F to the floor it will be a rigid lounge.
By folding up the braces E E, and placing the lower ends of the arms into the notches e e of the ratchet, and lowering the braces D D upon the hind ends of the rockers, it will constitute a bedstead.
By folding up all the braces, and folding the frame H H under the bars and securing itin position by the hook S, as represented in Fig. 2, and placing the lower ends of the arms into the notches a, b, or c of the ratchets, it constitutes a rocking-chair.
1 claim as my invention The folding frame H H, the folding support J, and braces D D, E E, F F, and G G G G, substantially as and for the purposes described.
HANS OBERG.
