lit 'f'ATES PATENT FREE DISPLAY FRAME Application filed August 18, 1930.
This invention relates to frames for cards or signs or other things, adapted to be fastoned to a door, and is in the nature of an improvement on the construction shown in prior application Serial l lo. 428,618, filed .lfebruary 15, 1930.
Generally stated, the object of the present improvement is to provide a. novel and improved construction whereby the lateral arms n for supporting the frame are more efiectively fastened in place on the frame.
i'tnother object is to provide a novel and improved construction whereby the entrance for the card or sign or other similar article,
at the top of the frame, is more effective in guiding the entering card or sign or other flat article downward in the frame.
it is also an object to provide certain details and features of construction and comhinations tending to increase the general efiiciency and the desirability of a metal frame of this particular character.
To the foregoing and other useful ends the invention consists in matters hereinafter set forth and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings in which- Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a frame embodying the principles of the invention.
Fig. 2- is an enlarged vertical section on 3 line 22 in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged horizontal detail section on line 3-3 in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
As thus illustrated, the invention comprises the front and rear frame sections 1 and 2, telescoped together at their sides and at the top and. bottom of the frame as shown. The two sections are held together by the rivets a inserted through the side walls of the frame, the outer ends of these rivets being rigid with the horizontally and laterally extending tubes 5 as shown. The metal ornaments or escutcheons 6 are provided with right angle bent portions I that are inserted between the ends of the tubes 5 and the front frame section 1,
shown more clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings, whereby these metal ornaments or escutcheons are held firmly in place by the same rivets that hold the two sections of the frame together.
The outwardly tapered. braces 8 are formed Serial No. 475,978.
of strap metal bent in the manner shown and provided at their outer ends with holes 9 through which the rods 10 are inserted into the bores of the tubes 5 are shown more clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings. Set screws 11 are provided in the tubes 5 to hold the rods 10 in adjusted position. These rods have their outer ends provided with holes 12 for nails or screws by which to secure the frame in position on a door or in any other convenient or desirable position. The construction is such that when the screws 13 are tightened, to clamp the feet 14 of the braces 8 in place 011 the sides of the frame, the outer end portions 15 of the braces are bent and placed under tension, whereby the tubes 5 are very firmly held in place, in a manner preventing looseness or rattling of the parts.
The metal lamp cap 16 is secured to the top of the frame by a screw 17 inserted through the top layers of the frame, this screw also serving to hold the inner guide plate 18 in place as shown. In this way, an entrance slot or mouth 19 is formed between the said plate 18 and the curved-out portion 20 of the rear section of the frame, adapted to guide the entering card or sign or other flat object downwardly into proper position in the frame.
Thus the rivets 4 and the screws 13 and the screw 17 cooperate to hold the various parts together in the manner shown.
l' i hat I claim as my invention is:
1. A frame having laterally projecting tubes, escutcheon plates having bent portions 8 inserted between the ends of the tubes and the sides of the frame, and rivets'extending through said bent portions in the sides of the frame to rigidly secure said tubes and escutcheons in place on the frame, and rods adjustable in said tubes, said rods being adapted to support the frame in position.
2. A structure as specified in claim 1, said frame comprising front and rear telescoping sections, and rivets permanently holding said sections together.
8. A frame having laterally projecting supporting tubes rigid with the sides of the frame, adjustable supporting rods in said tubes, and outwardly tapered brackets c0m prising metal members having end portions bearing against the outer ends of the tubes, and having feet secured to the sides of the frame, said feet having fastening screws which when tightened place said end portions under tension, said end portions having openings through which said rods extend.
4. A structure as specified in claim 3, said frame comprising front and rear telescoping sections held together by said screws.
5. A frame for the purpose set forth, comprising means forming an open front for a card or sign or other flat object, with a top wall for said frame, and out-turned rear upper portion, and an inner guide plate disposed at an angle a distance from said outturned portion, under said top wall, forming between them an entrance slot for the card or sign or other flat object.
6. A structure as specified in claim 5, said guide plate being in sections and having its top portion provided with a fastening screw by which the sections are fastened together.
7. A structure as specified in claim 5, said guide plate having its top portion provided with a fastening screw. and a lamp hood also secured in place by said screw.
8. A structure as specified in claim 5, said frame comprising front and rear telescoping sections, and said guide plate having a fastening screw extending through both of said sections and into the top of saidguide plate.
Specification signed this 14th day of August, 1930.
