The object of the present invention is to provide an arrangement adapted to guide camping machines in front oftheftap hole;

The gradient or dip of the tamping machine to the tap hole is attained, during the execution of these movements, by
means of the crank handle 5 moving in the "inclmed or curved guide slot 6 in the metal plate 7. The inclination of the guide slot is adjustable; that is, its gradient is depend ent upon the intended gradient of the tamp- When the swinging arm and with it the shaft 2, swings round, the crank handle5 of the crank shaft follows the course of the guide slot 6 in the plate 7, thus the rocking shaft 2 is rotated go according to the gradient of the slot and with it also the transverse member 6 and consequently the tamping machine linked to or pivoted at the lower end of the vertical rods f and .g dips.
We claim: 7
1. Apparatus for moving tamping machines to and from the operative position in the furnace tap hole, comprising means for moving the tamping machine parallel to it- .,self horizontally and means for inclining it in the vertical plane, the means for inclining the tamping machine in the vertical plane being operated automatically by the means for moving it horizontally.

Apparatus for moving tamping 'machines to and from the'opera-tive position in the furnace tap hole, comprising a series of members linked together to form a parallelogram of a parallel motion, a supporting structure, a vertical column forming an up- 8. Apparatus for moving tamping machines to and from the operative position in the furnace tap hole, comprising a series of members linked together to form a parallelogram of a parallel motion, a supporting structure, a vertical column forming an upright memberof said structure and rotatable about its vertical axis, means for suspending the parallel motion horizontally from the said structure, a horizontal transverse member pivotally mounted on the supporting structure so as to rock about its central pivot in the vertical plane, the tamping machine being supported by two vertical rods pivoted thereto at their lower ends, and pivoted at their upper ends to the horizontal transverse member, the disposition of the pivots being arranged to form a vertical parallel movement, and means for inclining it in the vertical plane, the means for inclining the tamping machine in the vertical plane being operated automatically by the means for moving it horizontally.

Apparatus for moving tamping machines to and from the operative position in the furnace tap hole, comprising a series of members linked together to form a parallelogram of a parallel motion, a supporting structure, a. vertical column forming an upright member of the said structure and rotatable about its vertical axis, a transverse member,
a horizontal rocking shaft and bearings for supporting the same on the structure, the transverse shaft being rockable transversely about its central pivot by the horizontal rocking shaft, means for suspending the'parallel motion horizontally from the structure, means for supporting the tamping machine from the structure independently of the parallel motion, two vertical members pivoted at their lower ends to the tamping machine and at their upper ends to the opposite ends of the transverse member, a crank fixed on an end of the horizontal rocking shaft, a fixed metal plate having an inclined guide slot therein, the crank handle of the rocking shaft extending into the slot of the slot-ted plate, so that as the structure is turned about its vertical column a turning movement is also imparted to the transverse member from the ends of which the vertical rods carrying the tamping machine are suspended.
