Description

D. B. TIFFANY.
CURTAIN-FIXTURES. No.183,990. Patented Oct. 31,1878.
W'TNESSES INVENTOR .0. B, Tffany,
#MKVuJL v ATTQRNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIon.
DAVID B. TIFFANY, OF XENIA, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CURTAIN-FIXTURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,990, dated October 31, 1876; application filed September 23, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID B. TIFFANY, of Xenia, in the county of Greene and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to curtain-fixtures and it consists in a spiked pulley attached to the end of the curtain-roller, and endless chain passing over said pulley, a catch, and a guide, all as hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is an end view of a curtain and roller with my invention applied therto. Fig. 2 shows the construction of the pulley.
A represents an ordinary grooved pulley, such as is commonly used on the end of acnrtain-roller. In the groove on this pulley are inserted or otherwise attached and permanently fastened a series of pointed pins or spikes, a at, extending radially at suitable distances apart. Over this pulley is passed an endless chain, B, made preferably of flat links to catch upon the pins or spikes a of the pulley. By means of this chain the curtainroller is easily rotated in either direction, so as to Wind up or unwind the curtain, as desired and the curtain may be held at any height by simply hooking one of the links of the front part of the chain on a hook or pin, 0, fastened in the window frame. Below the pulley A-in the window-frame is fastened a guide, D, through which the chain B passes, as shown in Fig. 1, so as to guide the chain properly to and from the pulley. The chain, at the bottom, is passed around a pulley, G, projecting from the window-frame.
I do not claim the roller of a window-shade having a pulley provided with projections combined with an endless perforated strap, as I am aware that such is not new.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with a curtain-roller and curtain, of the grooved and spiked pulley A, endless metallic chain B, guide D, hook U, and pulley G, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID B. TIFFANY.
