Description
Patented Jan. 5, 1932 UNITED VSTATES JULES PFLIMLIN, F MULHOUSE, FRAiNCE SPINNING FRAME Nn THE LIKE Application tiled Ianuary 8, 1880. Serial No. 18,718.
My invention relates to sliver or roving drawing devices devised for the drawing effected by spinning frames and the like, as also by preparatory machines and for drawa ing frames and more particularly to an improvement in Weighting the drawing rolls of such mechanisms.
In my co-pending application Seriall No. 418,711 filed of even date herewith I have de- 11i scribed and claimed a novel middle top roll so soft and compressible that when ressed against the middle bottom roll its s eeve isdeformed in a manner to engage said bottom roll over a considerable length of its circumferential surface. I have discovered that middle top rolls of the type just described are most e'ective when saddle-weighted or are weighted by a loatin weighting-roll and my invention will be escribed in connection l with such middle top rolls althou h its application in this art is not limited t ereto.
The nature of my invention will be understood from the following description of the accompanying drawings, in whic Figure 1 is a cross-sectional view of a spinning rarne showing my improved weighting of middle top rolls;
Secured to the bars 14, one at each end of the middle top roll (Fig. 2) are supports 16 for holding a weighting roll 18 in position above the middle to roll 10. Each support 16 is L-shaped, see ig. 3, the base 20 being slotted to be adjustable under a holding screw 21 and the upsta-nding leg 22 being widened to receive against it the shaft ends of two weight-ing rolls on adjacent frames. When secured to the cap bar the leg 22 stands perpendicular thereto and, hence inclined to the vertical. The adjustment on the screw 21 is made to place the leg with its face in a plane parallel to the axis Aof the top roll 10 and suiciently forward of said axis to set the weighting roll above said top roll. The shaft ends 24 of the weighting roll bear agpinst the inclined legs 22 of the supports w ich hold the weighting roll in iioa'ting contact with the mid e top roll.
The preferred construction of middle top rolls 'to be thus wei hted is shown in Fig. 2. The collars 26 o? the arbor are bridged by a skin covered, elastic sleeve 28 forming an annular air chamber between the sleeve and the arbor shaftl 30. This type of roll is so soft that-,under pressure, it 1s deformed from end te end to conform to the curvature of the middle bottom roll and obtain a belt like grip on the passing sliver all as described in my co-pendin application referred to. This t e of middle top roll will also be deforme y the weighting roll 18 as shown by. Fig. 1. Notwithstanding this double deformation of the elastic middle top roll it rolls easily on the middle bottom roll with a ro gressive circumferential deformation. en power is applied to the machinery all three rolls, bottom, top and weighting, start their rotation at the same instantand additional, injurious draft on the sliver, due to a dragging' top roll, is never present. The grip on the bottom roll and weighting roll obtained by the deformed top roll is such that rotation or all three is initiated simultaneously. e
I preferably, but not necessarily, provide the weighting roll 18 with a. sheath or covering 32 of some tenacious material, conven- -3. A spinning frame or the like comprising capvbars, front, middle and back pairs oi 1r ientl tubular knitted fabric of a size to t snug y on the body of the roll. This covering will gather'and remove all Hy and small portions of fibre from the surface of the middle top roll 10 thus keeping it clean and enabling it continually to weighting roll has accumulated a yconsiderable amount of waste on its fabric cover, theA y cover is easily stripped off and replaced.
The nature and scope of my invention having been indicated, and its preferred embodi-y ment having been speeiically described, what, is claimed as new is 1. In a spinning frame or the like, co-acting front rolls, 43o-acting back rolls, co-acting n middle rolls including a middletop roll hav- "ing a covering sleeve that is very soft and Ifreadily'zfdeformableat its. under engaging surface E`when pressed against the co-acting middle bottom rollenablingit lto` `e,ngage said fbottom rollover a. considerable circumferentialarc thereof, and e. weighting roll mounted @to rest upon sind so ,to deform said middle top roll at'the sameztime deforrning itsupper surface lto engage said Weighting roll over Y aconsiderable:circumferential are thereof.
