R O T N E V N NEY Patented Jan. 5, 1932 LEWIS W. HARRINGTON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DRAIN OUTLET Application filed May 14,
My invention relates to drain outlets for roots and the like and it is my object to produce a seamless, jointless, one piece outlet to which membrane waterproofing may be connected in such a way that a permanent, moisture proof joint is effected and which is so constructed that any desired hydrostatic or gaseous pressure may be applied to the drain pipe to which it is connected to force W the same tree from obstructions.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a sectional View of my improved outlet; Fig. 2 atop view of the structure of Fig. 1; F ig. 3 a detail, sectional iew showing how the membrane wa- 55 terproofing is connected to the outlet; and
Fig. 4 a view, partly in section of the blowout plug used in clearing the pipe line from obstructions. V
The outlet is a one-piece, seamless, jointless casting without openings through which moisture can seep or leak. It comprises the body 1 which tapers down to the threaded pipe connection 2 at the bottom into which the drain pipe is screwed from below. At the larger, or top end, a horizontal flange 3 is formed, partly inside and partly outside'the side walls of the body 1 as shown in Fig. 1.
At the inner edge of this horizontal flange 3 a surrounding, vertical stop wall 4 is formed.
The portion of the horizontal flange immediately adjacent the outside of the body is thickened at 5 and a groove or reglet 6 is formed in its upper face. The extreme outer portion of the flange 3 is thinned at 7 and the thinned portion is located between the upper and lower faces of the part 5.
In use the outlet is set in the roof or other portion of a building, as shown in Fig. 3, with the top of the flange part '7 on a line with the top surface of the root and membrane waterproofing, such as tar or asphalt paper, is laid over the roof and over the flange part 7 until it is built up level with the top surface of the thickened part 5. A flashing sheet of copper or the like 9 is then laid over the first laid membrane waterproofing, the edge turned down and calked into the groove or reglet 6. Successive layers of membrane waterproofing 10 are then laid over the flashing sheet and thickened part of the horizontal 1931. Serial No. 537,476.
that any desired air or water pressure may be applied to the pipe to force it clear and tree of obstructions.
I claim.
A one-piece, seamless jointless outlet for use with roots or" relatively great thickness and the like comprising a body portion terminati n at its lower portion in an internally threaded part adapted to receive a drain pipe and a blow-out lug, a horizontal flange on the upper end of the body extending partly inside and partly outside the walls of the body, a vertical stop wall adapted to prevent entry of foreign material into said outlet at the inner edge of the horizontal flange, said flange outside of and adjacent the body being thickened and provided with a calking groove, said flange being thinned at its outer edge, said thinned portion being located between the upper and lower faces of the thickened portion.
In testimony whereof I have afixed my signature.
LEWIS W. HARRINGTON.
