For cutting twine, string, cord, tape and like tying means in shops, stores and the like,

either scissors are used or a cutter placed on the counter. Such cutters on a counter or table are generally cumbrous and frequently are in the way of a salesman packing up goods that have been sold. I i

The subject-matter of the present invention is a device for cutting twine, string, cord, tape and like tying means, which is to be mounted on a counter, table, desk or the like at its edge and enables the string or the like to be out conveniently. As compared with known cutting devices referred to above, the device according to the invention when ar ranged at the edge of the counter has the advantage that it never constitutes an obstruction or obstacle, but is always ready for use at a predetermined convenient unobtrusive place without its entailing any risk of injury to anyone.

According to one feature ofthe invention there is provided a part having at least one blade to be arranged on a counter or the like at its edge, over the cutting edge of which blade string or the like to be out can be passed.

According to another feature of the invention, the middle part of a leaf spring is placed on a longitudinal base which is to be mounted on or near an edge of a counter or the like, in which base is inserted a blade with its cutting edge projecting above the same, which blade is covered by the said leaf spring.

In this passing it between the leaf spring 7 and the base 1 shall not be jammed or clamped between these two parts, whereby the cutting operation would be rendered more difficult, the base is rounded at its upper side at both sides of the elevation 3 for a distance approximately equal to the length of said limbs of the leaf spring (Figure 3) At its two ends the base has bevelled faces 13, over which the curved ends of the leaf spring 7 project, thereby considerably facilitating the insertion of the string or the like between the base and the leaf spring. Also, owing to the ends of the base being bevelled projecting edges are avoided at which persons may injure themselves, or clothes may be damaged.

Instead of only one blade two shorter blades may be accommodated in the longitudinal groove in the base.

What I claim is:

1. A cutting device for twine and like tying means, comprising a longitudinal base having a groove in the direction of its length and having an elevated portion between its ends, a blade accommodated in said groove with its cutting edge lying above the base and tapering towards both ends, a leaf spring carried by said elevated portion and covering the blade along its entire length, the end portions of said spring being bent towards the base and directed towards one another, and extended to said elevated portion, and each of the end portions of the spring having a slot for the passage of the blade.

2. A cutting device as set forth in claim 1, wherein the elevated portion of the base is provided on opposite sides with recesses and wherein a cap is slipped over the middle portion of the leaf spring and engages in the {Oecesses of the said elevated portion of the ase.

3. A cutting device as set forth in claim 1, wherein a cap of U shape is slipped over the middle portion of the leaf spring and has the free ends of its limbs bent towards one another to form hooks which detachably engage with opposite sides of the said elevated portion of the base.

4. A cutting device for twine and like tying means comprising a relatively flat base having an elevated portion medially of its ends and provided with a longitudinal groove in its upper surface, a blade accommodated in the groove with its upper cutting edge lying slightly above the base and tapering from the center towards the respective ends, the opposite ends of the elevated portion of the base being curved inwardly, a guard member in the form of a leaf spring, the upper medial portion of which rests on the upper surface of the elevated portion and terminates in substantially elongated loops the inner ends of which bear against the curved ends of the elevated portions on the base to prevent shifting movement of the leaf spring, and the lower portions of the loops of said spring being each provided with a slot for the passage of the blade.
