IMPROVEMENT IN NOSE-RINGS FOR SWINE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,594, dated October 24, 1876; application filed April 18, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND S. RICHARDS, of Tripoli, Bremer county, Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Hog-Ring, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a view of my improved device, illustrating its use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, and Fig. 3 represents one of the leather washers.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre- B is a wire, sharpened at both ends, andhaving a roller, A, placed upon its middle part. The wire Bis bent at right. angles at distance from said roller, as shown in Fig. 2.
In using the ring, the sharpened ends of the wire B are passed through the gristle of the hogs nose, bringing the roller A just in front of said nose. Small leather washers O are then placed upon the sharpened ends of the wire B, and the said ends are bent down upon the outer sides of the said washers O, securely fastening the ring to the hogs nose.
When a hog with this device applied to his nose attempts to root, the roller A turns upon the wire B, and the hog can make no impression upon the ground.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent The combination of the roller A, bent wire B, and washers 0, constructed and arranged substantially as and forthe purpose specified.
