This invention relates to that type of container which can be shipped in a collapsed form by the manufacturer and which can be easily and-quickly assembled by a whole- 5 saler to receive the articles which are to be shipped and displayed therein, and which can be so arranged by the retailer to artistically display and advertise the articles contained therein for sale. I
()ne of the objects of this invention is to produce a shipping and display container, simple in construction and inexpensive to manufacture and which will be artistic in appearance when on display.
Another object of this invention is to produce a shipping and display container which will have one or more compartments in which articles of manufacture can be shipped and displayed; each compartment having an opening in its front wall to more fully display the articles and to facilitate the removal of same by the vendor when a purchase is made.
Another object of my invention is to produce a shipping and display container which will have a plurality of compartments in which articles of manufacture may be shipped and displayed artistically.
A further object of my invention is to produce a shipping and display container composed of a plurality of compartments having integral with its rear wall, a flap portion which is bent backward and down behind the container when it is being shipped and which is bent upward and over on a scored line to allow its free end to be locked behind the compartment partitions to insure its remaining in position to display advertising matter printed thereon. The flap is pref erably punched to allow a portion of it to extend upward when it is bent over and locked in position to lend'artistic design to the advertising matter.
With these and other objects in view, to be more fully set forth hereinafter, the in wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and more specifically defined and indicated in the appended claims.
Attention is directed "to the drawings in which Fig. 1 is an isometric View illustrating my shipping display container arranged in display position;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my shipping and display container open for display as in the position shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a rear view of the invention folded as in Figs. 1 and 2;
Fig. 4 is a sectional View, taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a sectional view, taken on line 5-5 of Flg. 2;
Fig. 6 is a plan view of the scored blank used to form the container compartments and advertising flap.
Referring more particularly to Fig. 1, which illustrates my invention in display positi on, 1 represents the cover of the receptacle, which is cut out as at 2 and foldable along longitudinal scored lines 3. The free edge of the cover 1 is provided with a flap 4, which is adapted to be formed from the cover 1 by folding along the scored line 5. The cover 1 is formed integral with a back 6 and is assocontainer, there is provided associated with the back 6 and foldable along the line 8, a member 9 to which is secured on either side partition members 10, which are foldably associated with the member 9 along lines 11. The member 9 is adapted to lie against the back 6 being double-backed along the line 8. The partition members 10 are adapted to stand vertically by right angular relation to the member 9. The extremities of the members 11 are provided with flaps 12, which are adapted to be bent at right angles to the members 10 along the scored lines 14. The
scored lines 14 are provided with apertures 15 by means of which the device is secured in vertical position by reception through said apertures of retaining member 16 secured to the front 18 of the container and being adapted to be folded back upon the front 18 along the scored line 19.
One end 20 of the container is provided adjacent the back 6 and foldably associated therewith along the line 21. Associated with the end 20, there is provided a bottom reenforeing member 22, foldably associated with the end 20 along the line 23. The front 18 of the container is also arranged adjacent the end 20 and is adapted to be held in an angular relation of with respect to the end 20 along the scored line 24. The front 18 is provided with cut-out portions 25 and a central aperture 26 which provides for a neat appearing display, and enables the retailer to more easily remove the articles when they are sold and to ascertain the quantity still remaining in the container without their removal from the compartments.
The bottom 8 of the container is formed in conjunction with the front 18 being foldable with respect thereto along the line 27. The rear of the bottom is provided with a foldable flap 28, which is foldable along the scored line 29 and is adapted to be received within the container adjacent the back 6, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5.
A second end 30 is associated with the front 18 by the foldable scored line 31. An auxiliary bottom member 32 is also provided and foldably related to the end 30 along the line 33. Associated with the end 30 there is provided foldable locking tabs 34, which are adapted to be folded along the scored line 35, as shown, and are receivable within suitable apertures 37 of the back 6, or may be glued as shown by dotted line 36.
To set up the container for displa purposes, the operations may follow the ollowing order:
Member 9 is folded back against the back 6, the partitions 10 being folded along the scored lines 11 to be arranged vertically with the wings 12 folded inwardly. The end 20 is then folded along the lines 21 and the portion 22 along the line 23 whereby the extremity of the portion 22 will underlie the lower edge of one of the partitions 10, the end 20 being at right angles to the back 6 and the portion 22 being at right angles to both the back 6 and the end 20. The member 32 is then bent at right angles along the lines 31 to the front 18. The front 18 and end 20 are then folded with respect to each other along the line 24. This operation brings the tabs 34 adjacent the free end of the back 6. They may then be folded along the lines 35 and 36 and the tabs 34 secured within the apertures 37 for retaining the box in folded position. The bottom 8 is then folded at right angles with respect to the front 18, back 6 and sides 20 and 30 and the tabs 28 bent at right angles to the bottom and positioned parallel to the back 6 and portion 9. The tab 16 associated with the front 18 is then folded back upon the front 18 and the engaging tabs associated therewith are passed through the apertures 15 in the members 10, as shown most clearly in Fig. 2.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statute, I have described my invention, but I desire it understood that it is not confined to the particular form shown and described, the same being merely illustrative, and that the invention can be carried out in other ways without departing from the s irit of my invention, and therefore, I c aim broadly the right to employ all equivalent 1 instrumentalities coming within the scope of the appended claims, and by means of which, objects of my invention are attained and new results accomplished as it is obvious that the particular embodiments herein shown and I described are only some of many that can be employed to attain these objects and accomplish these results.
Having now described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat- I cut, is:
1. A foldable receptacle, cut, bent, and formed from a single piece of material and including a front section and foldably associated back section, said back section including an extension longitudinally foldable with respect thereto, and transversely foldable to abut the front section and to form divisions within the receptacle, said front portion including a foldably securing member for engaging said extension.
2. A foldable receptacle, cut, bent, and formed from a single piece of material and including a front section and foldably associated back section, said back section including an extension longitudinally foldable with res ect thereto, and transversely foldable to a ut the front section and to form divisions within the receptacle, said front portion including a foldably securing member for engaging said extension, said member having extending tabs receivable through the transversely folded portions of said extension.
3. A foldable receptacle, cut, bent, and formed from a single piece of material, and including a back portion, a cover longitudinally associated therewith for folding movement to covering position, and an opposite extension longitudinally foldable with respect to the back and transversely foldable thereacross to provide vertical partitions within the receptacle, and a front cut to rovide display apertures and embodying a oldable member carrying extending tabs for engagement through the transversely folded portions of the back extension to secure a blank in folded receptacle forming position.
