UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GIDEON HUNTINGTON, OF LONDON, ONTARIO, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BED-BOTTOMS. Q
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,461, dated October 17,1876; application filed July 20, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GIDEON HUNTINGTON, of London, in the county of Middlesex and the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Spring Bed-Bottom; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part'of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l isarepresentatiOn of a side view of the slotted slat, solid at its end. Fig. 2 is a modification of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of Figs. 1 and 2.,
My invention relates to spring bed-bottoms; and the novelty consists in a slitted slat having one or both ends solid, and inserting springs between the slitted pieces, thus forming double-slat springs, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a slat slit through its center, leaving the ends solid, as shown. (3 O are springs insorted between the slitted parts, thus forming doubleslat springs. D D indicate transverse pieces, to which the slats are attached.
The bed-bottoms are formed by placing on the supports D, at head and foot of the bed, any number of said slats required, according to size of bed.
The letter B, in Fig. 2 of the drawings, represents a slat slitted through at one end, and leaving the other end solid.
I am aware that a bed-bottom having bowed slats arranged in pairs, the ends of which abut against transverse rods placed between the slats, and rods being connected together by GIDEON; HUNTINGTON.
