UITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE W. RICHARDSON, OF ARLINGTON, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR TO HIM- SELF AND W. T. DAVIS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINES FOR SAWING STAVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,419, dated October 17, 1876; application filed April 10, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. RICHARD- SON, .of Arlington, in the county of Ballard and State of Kentucky, have invented an Improvement in Machines for Sawing Staves, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a stationary circular track, around which the saw runs, the saw being turned by a friction-pulley, opposite to which is a friction-roller, in a notch of the track, pressing the saw against the drivingpulley, and the table for the work is arranged at another notch in said track, for the passage of the staves and other objects sawed off.
Figure l is a sectional elevation of my improved machine, taken on the line a: a; of Fig. 2 and Fig. 2 is a front elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the stationary circular track, on which the circular band-saw B is fitted so as to turn freely. C is the friction-wheel for driving the saw D, the friction-roller for pressing the saw onto the drivingwheel E,
the notch in the stationary track for the friction-roller; F, the notch in the same for the work G, the work-table, and H a lever for connecting and disconnecting the drivingpulley with the saw, the said pulley being mounted on a bridge-tree, I, which rises and falls for that purpose.
The work-carriage and its track will. be curved suitably for sawing the staves to the right shape for making the bilge without bending them. The curve of the saw shapes the staves for the circumferential curvature of the barrel.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The circular band-saw B, arranged on a stationary way, A, having notches E and F, in combination with friction-wheel C and friction-roller D, substantially as specified.
GEORGE W. RICHARDSON. Witnesses: I
WILLIs L. RINGO, ELG. CARTER.
