Description

Nbv. 24, 1931. c PR|E WORK GUIDE FOR SEWING MACHINES Filed July 29. 1929 C02 0 A Price Patented Nov. 24, 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT orF c CORA A. PRICE, OF SUNIB URY, PENN SYLVANIA- wom: Gmnn role SEWING MAcnmEs 7 Application filed July 29,
of the sewing machine, this guide being maintained movably in the bottom plate so that it is not possible for the work to shift laterally when the presser-foot is raised.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides inthe combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of Construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being'understood thatchanges in the preciseembodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed withoutreference, 1 designates the presser-foot of a sewing machine forked as at 2 to permit free movement of the needle. Secured to or formed with one side of the Presser-foot is an arcuate guide plate 3 having its convex side nearest the presser-foot so thatthe ends of the guide plate curve away from the line along'which a fabric is to .be sewed.
Arranged beneath the presser-foot is the usual base plate .4 adapted to overlie the shuttle and having the usual slots 5 within which the needle and thefeeding mechanism will work. Another arcuate slot '6 is also formed in this plate and is so shaped and proportioned as to r'eceiveflthe lower edge portion of the guide plate 3 which, as shown the bottom surface of the .presserffoot.
departing from the spirit of the invention.
thereof.
. ture.
in Figuresl and 3, is extended well below I 1529. Serial N6. 381,871.
When the resser-foot is raised, the guide plate 3 will be raised therewith but willnot be withdrawn from its slot 6.: Thus the fab. ric' to be sewed can be placed under the presser-foot and shifted laterally until it touches the guide plate. It cannotpass under thisguide plate. Thereafter the pressere-foot is lowered and the guide plate will move downwardly in its; slot 6. Y With the parts thus," positioned the. sear;
, ing operation can be performed and the guide plate will of course be of greatva'lue as a means, for insuring proper spacing ofithe line of stitchesfrom theed-geofthe garment or fabric being sewed, V
It has been found that this presser-foot with a guide and base plate such as described is especially advantageous in sewingfcollars, cufl's,and the like. i
By extending the arcuate guide plate 3 7* into a slot in which it is seatedat alltimes during thesewing operation, said plate, can be made ofrelatively thinmaterial without danger of being sprung laterally by the fabric being sewed even though said fabric. should be very heavy.v
