This invention relates to new and useful improvements in nose punches of the type adapted for use in forming a hole in the nose of live stock for the insertion of a ring.
The primary object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a manually operable tool of the aforementioned character embodyinga construction andarrangement of parts whereby the operation of cutting or punching the hole through the animals nose maybe expeditiously and positively accomplished. a
The foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention may become apparent from a study of the following speci 3 that the reference numerals 1 and 2 designate a pair of handle levers which cross each other and are pivotally connected together as at 3. At their forward ends, the levers 1 and 2 merge into the outwardly, forwardly and inwardly curved arms 4 and 5, respectively. The free end of the arm 4 terminates in an integral enlargement 6 having a tapered free end portion 7 and a bore 8 extending from its forward end and terminating in an intermediate portion thereof on the forward side of said enlargement.
end of a tapered head 11 formed integrally 5 on the free end of the arm 5. The head 11 is preferably of softmaterial as compared with the enlargement 6 to prevent dulling ofthe knife edge 10 when the same is engaged therewith.
The free end of the. enlargement 6 is formed to provide a cutting edge 10 adapted for engagement with the free As will be obvious, the device is inserted in thenostrils of the animal and properly positloned after which the levers 1 and 2am swung together and the hole is formed in the animals nose in an obvious manner. The i punchings may be expeditiously removed y from the bore 8 by inserting a suitable implement thereinto from either end of the same. V V v It is believed that the many advantages of a nose punch constructed in accordance with this invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction may be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed. v 1 r What is claimed is A nose punch of the characterdescribed 10 comprising a'pairof handles, pivotally con nected together at one end, outwardly, for: wardly' and then inwa rdly curved arms formed integrally on the pivoted ends of the handles, "a conical head formed integrally with the free endof one of the arms, a coni cal head formed integrally with the free end c of the other arm having a reversely tapered 1 free end portion terminating in an annular cutting edge engageable with the free end of the first named head, the second named head having an angular bore therein "for the pas' sage of slugs extending from the cutting edge to one side ofsaid second named head adjacent. the reversely tapered end portion thereof. g
