IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-PIPE JOINTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,315, dated October 17, 1876; application filed March 25,1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROBERT MAINER, of Orilla, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a new and Improved Stove-Pipe Joint, of which the following is a specification:
The accompanying drawing represents a sectional side elevation of my improved stovevpipe joint.
My invention relates to an improved stovepipe joint of superior construction, by which the danger of fire is avoided, wire supports dispensed with, and only a short connection of pipes at the ends, instead of a wide overlapping joint, is required.
The invention consists of rivets at the end of one stove-pipe entering into slits of the other stove-pipe end, and being locked by pivoted fastening-hooks of the same.
In the drawing, A represents a stove-pipe, which is provided with two or more rivets, B, that project at the outside of the pipe, and enter the corresponding slots C of the connecting stove-pipe D. Hooks E are pivoted to the stove-pipe D near the slots or recesses C, and carried over the rivets or pins B, where the same are inserted into the slots.
The rivets and slots secure the stove-pipe ends against being turned axially, while the hooks lock them rigidly together, so as to form a stiff and reliable joint.
There is no danger of fire from the accidental separation of the pipes, while the rigid joint dispenses with wire supports, except at ROBERT MAINER.
